That's always frustrated me. I assume it's East Coast bias. All the networks are headquartered in NYC, so a foot of snow there is a HUGE story (and easy to cover) - while wildfires the size of Connecticut are the third or fourth story on the rundown.

It's ugly outside. It started to get grey in SJ around 10 or so and now (1:30 Pacific) it's orange again.

I saw some video from my friend in Talent, Ore. The downtown is on fire and he had to evacuate. This year's wildfires are being called the worst in recorded history.

My friend in Lincoln City, on the Oregon Coast, bailed out. After a day with no water or power, he is heading north. He can gas up in Tillamook, and grab some cheese. The smoke is less there. He is heading for Aberdeen, Wash. for a couple of days. Another friend in southern Oregon near Medford sent some eerie photos. A large portion of the town is evacuating. She said she is OK, but is monitoring wind reports frequently.

My friend in Talent, Ore., evacuated and posted a video of the town on fire last night. He doesn't know if his house survived.

This is from the balcony of my closest friends' home in the Oakland Hills looking to the northwest toward the Bay.

The smoke is bad no doubt, but most of the Willamette Valley and the Bay Area are getting smoke from fires in the Sierras and the Cascades. From what I've read most of Talent and Phoenix (the two towns you pass between Ashland and Medford on I-5) are pretty much gone. As are towns in the Cascades from the fires there.
