Old Forester is better than straight that Maker's Mark.
Would Maker's be a better mix for the cocktail because of the lesser rye bill?

Gotta admit, I'm not sure I've ever had Old Forester.

My statement was purely based on Maker's being a "premium" brand.

Maker's has more wheat, and Old Forester has more rye.
I drink my bourbon neat and always prefer the rye bills over the wheat bills.
I would imagine it makes a big difference when mixing cocktails, too.
Rye bills are spicier. Wheat bills are milder and grassier.
