Now, why would you say that?

Fresh, seasonal ingredients make for great cocktails.

Rye and diet coke...yum. I think you will find more Canadians drink Rye Whyskey than Bourbon.

I can't say I drink it in a fancy pants cocktail but there is always a bottle of Rye in the house, and the houses of all of my friend's dads.

Gin, Canton ginger liqueur, and grapefruit juice.

Ordered this drink last Saturday night at Paris Club: http://www.parisclubchicago.com

Had to guess at the proportions. Went with 2oz Gin, 3/4oz Canton, and the juice of half a grapefruit (about 1.5oz). Oh, and I added a splash of simple syrup.

New York Times article on Milk & Honey, the cocktail bar that opened in 2000, and "is still regarded as near holy ground by cocktail mavens":

The owners have put out a very cool iPhone app that I purchased ($2.99).

This is the first drink we made from it, the Hollywood:

    2 oz. White Rum
    1 oz. Grapefruit
    1/2 oz. Grenadine
    Egg White

Great place YF. When dining in the area, that was the spot for the pre and/or post dinner drink. Shame that they are moving, even if it makes sense.

Always wanted to go there, but never did.

Chicago's Violet Hour has been compared to it since it opened. Very cool place, but I would still have liked to have gone to the original.

    Cherry Caipirissima

This seasonal spin on the Brazilian caipirinha demands vigorous shaking to break up the ice cubes and to give the finished drink a breezy, almost effervescent zip.

    Ingredients

    3/4 ounce simple syrup

    3 cherries, pitted and halved

Half a lime, cut into quarters

    2 ounces white rum

    Preparation

In a cocktail shaker, press and mix the simple syrup, cherries and lime quarters with a muddler or wooden spoon. Add the rum and 6 ice cubes. Shake hard and pour everything into a rocks glass.

    Yield: 1 drink.
