Years ago, before the youngest Editude was 18, we gave her a choice: Nose ring or tat. She chose the ring. Now, she can tat herself as she pleases.

I disagree with his statement that fewer than 1.3% of QBs have tattoos. I'd guess it's 30-40%. Doesn't Drew Brees (mentioned as a clean-cut QB who'd never get ink) have his kids' names on his shoulder?

I bet that column took an hour, two tops. The San Quentin stuff is just weird. He needs an editor to say, "No."
Also left unsaid here and in that column (but not in USA today reaction) is that many of Colin's tats are Bible verses.

Speaking of Anderson and possible life sentences, what ever happened with that child porn possession charge?

Ed Sherman, who is building up a nice sports media website, emailed with Whitley. I didn't find the San Quentin stuff racist, because when I think of tats in jail, I think of white supremacists.

Yeah, I don't get the "racist" stuff. Aren't there as many young white people with tattoos as young black people? And I'd be willing to bet there are just as many old black people against tattoos as old white people. In fact, I'd guess most people over 50 of all races see the 20-somethings covered with tats and similarly shake their heads while muttering, "What the hell is wrong with these kids?"

A column concerning the tattoos of a biracial NFL quarterback that opens with a prison joke? Who could possibly misunderstand?

    Whitley's demurral here:

What I don't get: Why are tattoos so ugly? I mean, get a tattoo if you want, but why are they so garish with such horrible colors?

Google for "beautiful tattoos," and seriously answer, would you put any of these on your wall?

    Which colors offend you?
