College basketball 2009-10 running thread No. 1

I really didn't get the Louisville-WVa call late in the game. They didn't seem to make a call for about five minutes and it was pretty clear they didn't have the slightest idea who the ball went off of.

Instead of going alternating possession, which is what I thought the call always was, they gave the ball to the home team.

 

It wasn't a name invented for tonight's game.

 

I know... they picked it up at some point this season. But Okie State already concquered the "Octagon of Doom" . Shouldn't they actually win there before giving it the nickname?

 

It's actually at least a couple years old, but it "went mainstream" in the last couple of weeks because Gottlieb started talking about it and ESPN used it to promote this game. It's more of a Frank Martin era thing than it is a 2009-2010 season thing.

 

He pulled off a fantastic joke during his stint at the CBS table ... will not go into it for political reasons, but it was quite good. About as good as Georgetown's offense. It was N.C. State all over again for Duke. If the Devils can't play defense, they're not going anywhere in March.

 

Georgia holds Devan Downey to 33. He's kinda good.

Bulldogs also had a colossal brainfart in the final seconds. Down 1 with 3 seconds left, they were at the line for a 1-and-1. Georgia guy was at the line was 3rd-best FT shooter in the conference. Georgia had NOBODY on the blocks. Guy bricks the FT and Chickens still nearly fucked up the rebound. South Carolina went on to win by 1.

 

KU wins again in the Hawktagon.

 

That game is going to leave me numb for several days. Or weeks.

 

No matter when it was established, "Octagon of Doom" is the worst nickname for a gym ever. And it's not even close.

 

Yeah. My nerves are so shot right now.
