When I say structurally, I think in terms of beyond the current crop of players and coach. WF will support a winner, and money people will get behind them. Tech is at best the 6th option in a terrible sports town.

When the Thrashers were there, Atlanta was the most apathetic four-sport city in the country. So they're now the most apathetic three-sport city in the country.

Georgia Tech is an option low on the totem pole of a city that doesn't seem to care about its professional franchises, much less Georgia Tech, Georgia State, etc. Boston College will never be higher than fifth in its city, either, which is what triggered Tom O'Brien to leave a program he had built to plenty of success in Chestnut Hill for a shot in Raleigh (media is also polar opposite ... in Boston, the colleges can go about their business in a more low-profile matter. In the Triangle, the Russell Wilson story dogged him worse than a hot and humid August day).

I know what you meant, Dixie. But when Bobby Cremins was there, it did seem that people cared. Not the way they do in the Triangle, but that's not a fair comparison. I don't remember seeing so many empty seats in the Thrillerdome during the John Salley-Mark Price-Bruce Dalrymple days or when they had James Forrest, Duane Ferrell or Tom Hammonds.

Wake Forest is a program that keeps turning around to try and hit the iceberg again. Ron Wellman had to clean things up off the court, but this ship is sinking so fast and deep that even the rats are scurrying.

    Oregon?

I know, Nike, but OREGON? They're a nothing hoops school.

Ron Everhart out at Duquesne today. I had no idea he was on the hot seat. Last I checked, he was always a candidate for bigger jobs.

The Duquesne president's email to the board leaked yesterday and provides some interesting insight into how the school views itself in basketball terms. Not sure it's got realistic expectations.

The line at the end about adding some new universities to the Atlantic 10 soon is also intriguing.

VCU and George Mason have been mentioned for A-10 membership, in addition to Butler, once UMass and Temple leave.

Not sure I believe any of it, but there's an awful lot of chatter on the internets about Frank Martin to South Carolina.

It's not like they're moving from Boulder or Denver. I'll take Lincoln over Fort Collins in a second.

Ouch. So what do your really think, Charles Dougherty? That was a pretty good rip job.
