I've never been to Lincoln admittedly, but Fort Collins has a great local beer scene and it's a lot closer to Denver than whatever metropolis Lincoln is near. Omaha? Woohoo.

I do find it interesting though - that location doesn't seem to matter a lick in college hoops. It's all about the coach. Lansing, Bloomington, Syracuse, Lexington...none exactly known a paradise for young single men like Gainesville, L.A. or other sunny locales are in football.

Take Gregg Marshall off the board. Wichita State put out a release today saying he's staying put.

Is UMass definitely leaving? I know the football program is moving to the MAC, but I thought the rest of the teams were staying put? Or does this suppose that UMass will move the whole shooting match to the Big East or Conference Clusterfuck?

Old Dominion may not be a candidate for the A-10, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported, because they might be moving the football program to FBS. I've never heard anything past speculation from observers, but it's a popular theory. They'd have to do a pretty quick expansion of the stadium to get to FBS level, I'd think. And unless you know you can get into a conference that isn't the Sun Belt or MAC, what exactly would be the point?

The people who think most highly of Gainesville are those who have never been.

As for ODU, I think the eastern C-USA schools would have been better off combining with them, Georgia State, maybe VCU and or Charlotte if they take the football plunge.

Can't speak for Lansing - well, yes I can, it's a shithole - Bloomington or Syracuse but Lexington is a fine place to be a young single guy. UK matches up or exceeds every other school in the SEC when it comes to "scenery."

I've been to Lincoln once, but the campus area struck me as OK.

Fort Collins is awesome, but some of the places you mention up there as potentially uncool are actually quite cool. Bloomington is definitely in the top third of the Big Ten campuses and is the favorite of many. Omaha is a very vibrant city too. Lexington isn't bad at all.

East Lansing? Er, uh, its got a Wendy's in it?

Slow your roll there, cowboy. Fort Collins is a great town. And it's 15 minutes from Boulder and Denver.

Lincoln is still in Nebraska. Case closed.

You are right, my bad. Football only.

But this is where I read about VCU and GMU (not sure if it's the same story that you talked about).

    Awesome.

They shouldn't. Miles ticks off many of the same boxes as Collier and Sadler — solid, unspectacular mid-major coach who wins the press conference and is praised to the rafters by his peers but lacks a track record at the highest level.

Third time's the charm, eh, Dr. Tom?

Correct, Trooper. Colorado State was a complete mess. Tim Miles built it back, brick by brick, and made the Rams somewhat relevant in an area which couldn't care less about basketball.

If anyone has a chance to build something not called American football that someone will care about in Lincoln, it's Miles.

When I read TrooperBari's post, I thought his point was, "Miles brings more of the same for Nebraska basketball." Maybe I read it wrong. Maybe I read it to fit my own view of the hire.

Sam Mills 51, wouldn't you have said the same thing about Barry Collier?
