    This Virginia Tech thing is strange. The timing seems awful, and the athletic department is promoting the live stream of this presser like it is going to announce the cure for cancer or something.

    It hasn't been a good couple of hours for Seth. He was not lying when he said that - he did not know at that time.

    With the AD leaving VCU, maybe VT swoops in and gets Shaka Smart?

    One of the names being bandied about is Moddy's Moddy's contact's favorite person, Greggggg Marshall. Another...Jeff Jones. That would be an interesting choice. I think he'd do well there, but their last former UVa point guard didn't exactly set the world on fire.

    I don't have an issue with Gregg Marshall. Never met the guy.

    Comparing Jones and Ricky Stokes? C'mon!! That would be a pretty good hire, actually (Jones, not Stokes again).

    My bad. Had you confused with someone else. I know people on this board (probably on this thread) have had some nasty things to say about him.

    I've had some personal issues with Jones, but he's been successful at UVa and AU. That Melvin Whitaker/Courtney Alexander recruiting class did him in at UVa.

    Among other things - but he can coach.

    Shaka would be a breath of fresh air at VT, especially if it is true they're making the change because Seth simply wore out his welcome. I had a great relationship with him, loved covering him because he wasn't shy. Liked seeing his name in the papers. But he can also be pretty abrasive and that takes a toll over a while. A little sandpaper doesn't do much damage - but keep rubbing the same spot for years and you have some real damage done.

    Surely is right. No upside for borderline programs in that conference, especially with Syracuse and Pitt barging in.
