Duke basketball earned $35 million last year.

Not sure why the players shouldn't get a cut of that - with or without the NCAA doing oversight.

Hey! They get room and board and tuition! Not to mention all the hoodies they want!

If a college player leaves college to play in a pro league he permanently forfeits his amateur status. It’s not the same playing field as it is for the rest of the student body.

The NCAA should allow any player in any sport to return to college competition unless they appear in a regular-season pro game.

That is, if you get drafted then cut in preseason, you can go back to school.

The NCAA and schools aren’t amateur, that’s the point. They’re professionals at every step except for the athletes. That’s where the hypocrisy comes in.

If they want amateur athletics, then make them purely amateur like they were supposed to be in 1906. That goes for everyone, minus expenses. Make coaches work full time as teachers and limit them to 15 hours a week coaching and recruiting. Limit athletes to 10 hours a week of practices. Sponsors can get their logos out there and signs in the gym. Nobody related to the teams personally profits from sponsorship. The games won’t be as crisp, but oh well.

Or, they can finally admit it’s not 1906 anymore, stop using that as an excuse not to share the wealth, and adapt to today. You know, like the Olympics did (bidding cities corruption not withstanding). For decades, we were told that the Olympics would fail if professionals competed in them. Didn’t happen. For decades, we were told that MLB would collapse if the reserve clause was removed and players could become free agents. Didn’t happen.

They do get a cut. In cost of attendance (tuition, board, etc) and whatever the cost of living stipend is at Duke.

Overbearing student loans are a financial crisis in America. People are buried in debt because of it.

    It’s a pretty good deal.

Now, if your argument is that Zion Williamson doesn’t really morally value the compensation - that is, the Duke education - well, then I think he may want to find a new avenue to play the sport. If his playing at Duke is literally uncompensated - mind you, I’m not saying that, but some do - then he oughta find a better gig.

what I can’t figure out is why, again, if the NCAA is so rotten, why elite high school basketball players and their families don’t find a better option for a year. Surely there must be one to invent.

Again, how does Zion Williamson getting paid affect you in any way? If it doesn't, then why do you care?

    First, he is paid.

Second, how does Zion Williamson getting paid affect you in any way? If it doesn't, then why do you care?
