I know you are being sarcastic.

But the shoe companies are getting involved with kids that age through AAU ball. And we now see these specialized basketball skills academies and these prep schools with powerhouse teams.

Colleges are now discovering that top prospects actually have enough credits to graduate a year early and can be "reclassified".

I’m not. Nike just signed a 13 year old girls soccer player.

I have to say - for all of the grief the SEC and particular states therein - get about their past, I'm very happy I was wrong about the fallout from the kneeling thing at the Ole Miss game. Maybe all of the racists that normally go were at the Nazi rally or whatever - but Kaepernick received more heat and he did it in SF.

I don't think it's quite the hot button issue it was a year ago. Add in the Confederate rally outside the stadium and a lot of people (the non hardcore racist sort) kinda sighed and admitted that it was provoked.

I agree with Alma that we should disconnect pro sports from higher education in this country.

Let the leagues run their own development academies. As they do in Europe. He's not being sarcastic at all about children being signed to big contracts. Happens all the time in soccer.

I think our disagreement is whether or not the NCAA is an impediment to that.

The NCAA supports and extends the current economic model of American universities serving as big money minor leagues.

And of course the biggest reason things persist as they are is that mountain of money.

I think we'd have to blow up the NCAA and get the money out of college sports before we'd make any progress toward a new development model.

Knight and Nike supported Tonya Harding.

Too bad UNC already has played at Duke.

Was looking forward to hearing Tommy Roe's "Dizzy" being played during timeouts.
