I posted last night that I thought the CAA would be only a one-bid league unless VCU gets upset in the CAA tournament. A look at the RPIs leads me to predict only the tournament champion goes. VCU's RPI is 63, George Mason 64 and the next highest is Delaware at 134.

ESPN says Dave Odom is going to retire at the end of the season.

If only Gregg Marshall had waited one more season in Rock Hill.

Well-llllll ... the plot thickens. With two high-profile transfers and two big in-state recruits, this was supposed to be the season the Chickens surged back into the hoops picture.

I hope Dave Odom isn't being pushed, but I wonder.

  4. Odom has already denied it.

Saw that Eric Bridgeland is taking over at Pepperdine...effective immediately.

Geez, I saw him play at the University of Manitoba. He had a terrible haircut, but he could score. Real offensive talent.

We've had this discussion before, but the conversation to Katz might have been something along these lines.

AK: Is Odom retiring at the end of the season?
Source: Um, well, we'd sure like him to.
    AK: What are the chances?
S: Let's put it this way -- he either retires or he retires. We'll get the checkbook ready.

    Just my opinion.

    I'll buy the theory, MU.

Problem is, Downey can play but I dunno if the chemistry is there. Fredrick can play, but he tends to forget that he has teammates. Rogers can be a stud, but I'll put the over/under at six months before he does something selfish and/or stupid. And Sam Muldrow - a super kid - can rebound and will do as asked, but is a project.

They need another year, but somehow the Chickens think this stuff comes together overnight.

They had a year in practice to get the two main ones ready. The spite of losing some of those games is adding to the inpatience.

In the one game I saw, Downey didn't look too bad. But Fredrick is a hotdog ... there's a reason he transferred out of Georgia Tech. I'm surprised Paul Hewitt didn't smack the taste out of his mouth at least once while in Atlanta.

That smells of being made to walk the plank.
