I just read Katz's story and apparently the Big 12's regional contract called for the Missouri-TT game, and that there can't be another competing game on at the same time -- hence no TV.

Looking at it in the pre-season, it makes sense some decision-maker would take Knight's boys over Baylor. Now, not so much.

Texas Tech-Missouri game was actually pretty good. Tech murdered Missouri's press.

The only time you forfeit is when you are down to only one player as you cannot inbounds the ball.

You can, but you've gotta get the guy guarding the baseline to fall for the ol' "Bounce it off his back" trick.

Which'll be damn near impossible considering there's no one else to pass it to.

I could see a team falling for it ... but maybe I've watched too much Idaho basketball.

Weirdest sporting event I ever saw involved this rule. On a lark, I went to see a Wichita State-Indiana State game in '89 when I was in high school. I lived in Indy at the time and my dad got promo tickets. For the hell of it, we decided to go.

We showed up very late ... just before halftime ... and we had just missed a big brawl. Wichita's Sasha Radinovich, a well-known thug back in the day, got into it with one of the Sycamores. All of ISU's players left the bench to join the beatdown.

This was the first year college basketball had the "leave the bench" rule, meaning anyone who left the bench was ejected. So the officials booted Radinovich, the original Sycamore, and every single player on the Sycamore pine, meaning ISU had to go the rest of the way 5-on-4. The Shocks already lead by 20-plus.

Despite being a man down, ISU came back to either pull within two or tie the game (I forget which) in the second half. Damnest thing I ever saw. The crowd (ISU was God awful even by ISU standards in '89, but they drew better then than they do now) was going berserk.

Eventually, two more Sycamores fouled out and Wichita won going away playing 5-on-2.

Since I primarily went to NBA games in Milwaukee and Indy as a kid, this was the first college basketball game I ever attended. Ironically, Hulman Center is where I often ply my trade many moons later.

Great story. Of all the games I've covered, I've never seen a team go down to even four players.

That crashing sound you hear from Ohio is Dayton's painful introduction to reality.

    Xavier 47, Dayton 25 ... 14:50 left.

Which is a shame. I understand that not every game can be on TV somewhere, though.

Re: Wazzu, I'm feeling better about KU's win against Arizona earlier this season. If the Wildcats can play like this consistently, they're going to be a factor come March.

Now THAT'S the UD I know and love! They never win in Cincy.

Baylor game: Well, there was some sort of tape or broadcast or something, because my local news was showing highlights last night.

Wazzu: God they played awful. Derrick Low didn't score until the last 3 minutes and Arizona hit 12 or so 3-pointers, plus went to the line a lot more times. Why doesn't Arizona play this good all the time?

The A&M Baylor footage came from the A&M video team. They sent stuff off to all the networks for replays.
