No, he didn't. Every story I read, most of which were in the Trib, said that Sampson initiated the contact when he started at IU. It started the latest round of bitching about "no contact after verbal commitments."

  3. It shouldn't be. They have a 7-footer. The Citadel isn't like the service academies. While life at The Citadel is a similar to the academies, there's no obligation to serve after you graduate (which, I think, is why the height restrictions kick in). Some do, but many don't. After one of my old roommates in college got out of the Army and was looking at schools, his father suggested he go to The Citadel (they lived near Charleston). He told his dad, I was in the real Army for the last eight years, why would I want to go play Army for four more?

    Pretty key phrase there.

When I was a Tribune subscriber, it was pretty shameless in its support of local teams which did well - like the Illini - and in its bashing of teams that did not do so well, like the Blackhawks. The Tribune is not the most unbiased news outlet, especially when it comes to the Illini.

That said, the Gordon "recruitment" is like the OJ Mayo situation: kids shouldn't be allowed to recruit schools, though I'm not sure Sampson has any respect or authority left to undermine.

So you're suggesting, Piotr, that the Trib's reporting in this case was factually incorrect?

I think you understand that I'm suggesting that the Trib favors certain local teams, and may not pursue the negative lead that could lead to information that paints the Illini as something other than a victim of a recruiting scandal perpetrated by a conference rival.

I certainly wouldn't believe the Bloomington Herald-Times would pursue a lead that says Gordon's recruiting was not on the up-and-up.

I can't speak to the facts of the Gordon case, except that something smells bad about it. That doesn't change the Tribune's tendency to slant for or against certain locals. Unless the sports section has change appreciably in recent years . . . . . maybe it has.

Actually, it's pretty equal-opportunity in its bashing. With the exception of David Haugh with the Bears, who doesn't criticize very often.

I'm assuming that Daniel Webster had the Devil as their PG, dishing hell up and down the court.

South Carolina has no more excuses. They either win or Odom gets pink-slipped. And no, winning the NIT isn't going to wow the masses, or Spurrier down in Columbia.

Another freshman comes up big tonight; Syracuse's Jonny Flynn hits game-winning three with five seconds remaining to push Syracuse past St. Joseph's.

His classmate and teammate Donte Green looks to be a pretty damned good one as well.

Also watching Oral Roberts-Texas A&M right now and DeAndre Jordan is a load. Can't wait to see he and Beasley square off later this season.

Great night for the Atlantic 10 on crucial defensive possessions.
St. Joe's guy turns his back on the ball with three seconds left.
Xavier fouls a 3-point shooter while protecting a one-point lead.
    That league is cursed.

    The PG looked pretty strong.

The Cuse might be a tough team in the Garden later this year once they get some games under their belt.

Did you notice Jim B. just light into Harris as that game ended? I think he stated that Harris' mother may have been a canine.

  12. That's not a very good St.Joe's team that just pushed Syracuse to the brink there.
And what's with the SU uniforms reading, "Orange"?
