Ted Valentine could choke on his whistle at mid-court, and I'm not sure I'd care...

I expect a few writers at tonight's game, already up on a tight deadline with a 9:05 tip, werent happy with his whistle happy antics tonight.

A near 80 minute half with all the touch fouls. Took a game that was 30-30 10 minutes in and slowed it down to a snails pace.

I could live to be 130 and never understand why Valentine is still allowed to officiate major college basketball games. He is awful, awful, awful. NO ONE IS THERE TO WATCH THE OFFICIALS, YOU STUPID SACK OF SHIT!

I normally try to defend officials. Sportswriters, of all people, should respect those in similarly difficult, thankless professions. But I can't defend him, and I'm amazed he still has a job.

  6. agreed, hammer.

you'd think after doing this for so damn long, he'd finally get the hang of it.

    apparently not

Referees who run by their crewmates several times per game to make needless, off-the-ball foul calls and get in a player's face and make the "T" sign four fucking times think they have the hang of it.

A couple years ago, at a smaller major conference venue where noise and all that wasn't an issue, Valentine openly chatted with sports writers and other media members DURING the game while he was under the basket.

It was kind of weird. He thinks he's the absolute shit, and you can tell it in everything he does.

Dude, how many games have we covered at the same venue.
Teddy V did a lot of the Big South games I covered, and I can't even begin to describe how many non-pertinent conversations we had during those games. He once gave me his phone number during a TV timeout so I could call him on a story (I'd been talking to him during halftime).
I like him, but he often needs to be the COA.

I witnessed a game tonight that featured a tornado delay and 55 fouls called. Capped off by failure of wireless, ethernet (my machine's fault) and dial-up (my machine and the 90 inches of rain that fell during the game both contributed).

Someone put a piston in my brain.

  11. So what'd you write about?

If your talking the Marquette game, I seriously thought both of those would be better. But James was hurt in one and ill in the other, so that could play a part. That, or Marquette is just seriously overrrated. I'll take the latter.

If you're talking about Rutgers, I just laugh.
