And I would hardly call Pelphrey a role player at UK. Scored more than 1,200 points and was All-SEC. And he is a hell of a coach who will win at Arkansas and move on. They should be in the top 25 this week, or close to it anyway.

And I don't know Pelphrey or anything, for the record.

They're passionate about being miserable, except for the last two seasons that is. But the previous 100 or so...

I doubt Clemson would travel for hoops the way UK does for football.

I think UK football has somehow gotten a false representation that it's a holdover sport until basketball. I don't think that's true. There is a solid base of fans that show up every Saturday and a solid bunch that goes wherever the Cats go. Taking 50K to the Music City Bowl two years in a row shows that too.

UK fans want to win in football, not just get excited every 10 or 15 years.

But other than that, I don't think Agate was too far off. Clemson won't fire Purnell for finishing fifth or sixth in the ACC and falling into the tourney every now and then, just as UK won't fire Brooks for losing to Tennessee and Florida and finishing fourth or fifth in the SEC East every year if he keeps getting to bowl games.

This was what I was trying to say. My post needed an editor.

Where will Pelphrey win and move on to besides Kentucky?

Well, if he wins, he can go lots of places. Just because he went to Kentucky doesn't mean he has to end up at Kentucky.

Hell, Denny Crum playued and coached at UCLA but didn't end up there even when he had the chance. Dean Smith, a Kansas guy, did pretty well at UNC.

No, they don't show up every Saturday. I've been to plenty of games where the stadium was half full.

It's the same 40,000, but they haven't packed the stadium every Saturday.

Well, I guess you think he's going to win A LOT at Arkansas, and I think it's still way too early in Pel's career to say he's going to win well enough to coach a program like UNC. He had one team go to the NCAAs in his five years at South Alabama and Arkansas still has a little bit of work to do to get into the tournament this year.

I guess my point was that Arkansas is solidly on the upper second tier of big conference basketball programs. Considering Pel is an SEC guy (went to Kentucky, grew up in Kentucky, assistant at Florida), I think only one of the all time elite programs would lure Pel away from Arkansas unless the school got cheap on him. I'm thinking schools like UCLA, UNC, Duke, Kansas type schools (this list isn't exclusive).

doug gottlieb calling people out for not being able to shoot is one of the funniest things i've ever seen.

Kindly point out where I said they packed the stadium every Saturday. I can't seem to find that sentence in my post.

Commonwealth Stadium isn't a bad place to be on a Saturday in the fall, that's for sure. There are far better places in that conference to watch a game, but there's nothing wrong with Commonwealth. I like that stadium and that city.
