Syracuse has received permission to talk to second-year Oregon offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who came to UO from New Hampshire.

Syracuse is the only school that has contacted Oregon about Kelly so far.

Hell, I was sad to see Croom step down. He got MissState going in the right direction. I'm hoping the Bulldogs replace him with a quality hire.
Mark May made a good point about Kiffin getting the Vols hire - he really hasn't done enough to merit a job like that. If it was a black coach with his resume, they would be calling it an affirmative action hire.

Notre Dame should have a sit down with Weis - restructure his deal to ease the buyout (cut it in half or more) in exchange for a guarantee that he'll be back next year. If he's not willing to deal, get rid of him.

It was sad to see Sylvester Croom step down. But, not surprisingly, he handled the situation with nothing but class. Kudos to his handling a situation that would have been nearly impossible for Mississippi State otherwise.

Word out of Seattle is that they are talking to Brian Kelly at Cincy, Pat Hill at Fresno State, and are planning to contact Mike Leach at TTech. They've already interviewed the OC at Notre Dame, but the Irish didn't help his chances Saturday. As an OSU fan, I wouldn't be happy to see Kelly, Hill or Leach wind up in Seattle.

    Nebraska was also a 1960s wonder...a 1970s wonder....a 1980s wonder

    Why would Leach go there?

That's about 3 steps down - even if he's in Lubbock....

  7. As expected, Dabo Swinney is having the interim tag taken off at Clemson.

And elsewhere in the state, Steve Spurrier canned his OL coach, who was with him at Florida and the Redskins. If he was thinking of retiring, doubtful he would've done that. So put those rumors to rest for another year.

SoCarolina's qb coach, who is also Lane Kiffin's brother in law, has also stepped down.

  9. And is going to Tennessee. If reports are true and Lane Kiffin is bringing his dad in to be DC, and Ed Orgeron for OL and recruiting, then that's an impressive staff, and nearly makes up for Kiffin himself being a huge reach.

all these top recuits and we haven't seen the results on the field. I think Charlie gets a top QB and RB and wows em at scouts.com. Trouble is, you need a stud D Lineman, a shutdown cover corner, and top OT. You can compete with USC, Texas, et. al for RBs, who IMO are a dime a dozen. You need those key players at other positions and depth to compete.

The academic argument doesn't hold any water. BC and Vandy still have pretty decent programs with strict academics and they don't even have the cache that ND has.

If nothing else, Lane Kiffin figured out one rule that even some of the more experienced sorts don't: Hire good people.

If Kiffin allows them to do their jobs, he's going to look a lot smarter than the talking heads have given him credit for.

The way LK is loading up at Tennessee, everyone is going to be happy but Fulmer. Then again, he's going to be at a pretty damn good gig where people will love him.

I've never been a Fulmer fan, but the end of the UT-UK game the other night was fantastic. He got a hell of a well-deserved tribute.
