You think Pollard and Lowder had a trade worked out early?
"I'll give you Chizik and a third-rounder for Rhoads and cash..."

That was the first thing that came to mind when I heard about the hire this morning.

Pollard:  Hey Bobby, this is Jamie Pollard. You know, the guy from Ames?  I can't seem to find someone to replace Gene, now that you took him from us.

Lowder: "I" took him from you?

Pollard: Sorry, I mean he left. Can I work a deal with you?  Can I take one of Tommy's assistant off of your payroll, straight up?

Lowder:  who do you want?  Franklin?  We fired him in the middle of the season.

Pollard:  I'll take Rhoades and a bag of peanuts. Does that work for you?

Lowder: You got 'yer self a deal, son!!  When can you come down and pick him up?

I like the Iowa State hire better than the Auburn hire.

Not sure many will argue with you.

I want to agree with that, but I'm not hesitant to say that this hire better fucking work for Pollard. I could care less that Rhoades is from Ankeny, his old man is an Iowa HS HOF coach, he played for Jerry Pezzetti (aka Yoda), coached under McCarney and knows the territory.

Can he coach and not look like a deer in headlights?

I do like that fact that he hasn't jumped around every other year from a gig: 5 at Iowa State, and about 7 at Pitt. Tuberville asked him twice to come to Auburn, before saying yes before this past season.

We have another black football coach.

Eastern Michigan hires former U-M and current Louisville defensive coordinator Ron English.

The last Ron to be a head coach at EMU didn't work so well, either...

Didn't U-M fans hate him because his defenses sucked?

He could fit right in at Beagleland then.

I'm really not trying to be a jagoff here -- but what other than being a black coordinator -- and thus automatically a "hot" candidate according to the Mark May's of this world -- has Ron English done over the past few years to convince anyone he is going to be a head coach?

And further - why in the hell if he wants to have a legitimate career would he take that job? You could make a very strong argument that job is one of the five worst in I-A.
