Realize you're talking to Doc, but it's tough to compare White to, say, Carson Palmer or Peyton Manning.

Yup. And I'd point out that Peyton Manning was being compared to Ryan Leaf... And that was after both had played four years of college ball.

It's funny. I know you are a Louisville guy, and for my money, the most developed pro-ready QB I see in college football is Brian Brohm. If the 2007 draft is happening tomorrow, Brady Quinn probably goes #1, Brohm goes top 10 probably. I'd roll the dice with Brohm ahead of Quinn, though. It's all a crapshoot, though. Explain Tony Romo... and then tell me any idiot with an opinion about everything on here can really project at this point whether Pat White has the talent to excel as an NFL QB.

I'm going to assume that last line was directed at me, for whatever reason. Ragu, I'm a WVU fan. I've seen Pat White play a lot more times than you, I'm guessing. I love him as a runner, I cringe when he throws. I don't see him all of a sudden finding accuracy. I'll be happy if he proves me wrong.

Not sure if Brohm goes that high -- if he goes this year. I'd say it's 75-25 he goes, but he does have a significant knee injury and a throwing hand injury within the past year. Both of those injuries will probably prompt him to leave, but it also may diminish his value, if that makes sense.

Brohm has finally looked 100 percent healthy the last two weeks, and I do think he is a better pro prospect than Quinn (take that, though, from someone wearing Cardinal-colored glasses). I also think he'll flourish once he gets away from his quarterback coach brother. It might seem incredible to say this, but Brohm probably had more pressure on him here in Louisville than he would have had at Notre Dame or Tennessee or any other major school.

My bet is Brohm isn't going anywhere. He's already said he's staying, not that that means anything. I strongly suspect he's going to make a Heisman run and give himself another year to boost his draft position. It'd be smart for him to stay.

I hope you're right, but considering his injuries, I won't be surprised by him leaving after this season.

The only way I see him returning is if Michael Bush decides to apply for a medical redshirt.

Louisville's top QB recruit is Matt Simms, Phil's younger son. It already has been determined he is red-shirting next season becuase Petrino is certain Brohm will be back.

Hope you're right spnited. I'm also betting Simms will have more pressure on placed him at Louisville (his dad's hometown) than his brother had at Texas.

The expectations have increased dramatically in recent years. Now that the Cardinals have reached a BCS bowl, the fans will be satisfied with nothing less than that for years to come. Louisville's also getting ready to add another 25,000 seats to Papa John's. If they fall off, even slightly from where they are now, it might not bode well for the program.

Matt Simms has dealt with incredble pressure in NJ as Phil's son and Chris' brother and finally won his State championship Friday night in his third shot at the finals.
Problem is, he's not as good as Chris.

Saw him play earlier this year. I wasn't really impressed, even though his team came back big time in the second half.

Trouble is -- Phil Simms is beloved here. And, fairly or not, people will expect Matt Simms to be like Brian Brohm in that Brian was the best of his family's line of QBs. People will expect Phil Simms' son to be the natural successor (maybe after a year or two of Hunter Cantwell) to the Brohms.

If he's not, Louisville better recruit the second-coming of Major Applewhite.
