I see the Nebraska defense is back in fine form.

    That's a Clemson TD, and a 10-point lead.

Still a lot of time left for Georgia, though.

Depends on playing time. The state of Iowa has three "big-time" programs between Iowa, Iowa State and Northern Iowa. While Iowa and Iowa State have more room for error in the overall recruiting classes, Northern Iowa has a little more flexibility with recruiting. Iowa or ISU can say "come here but only as a safety" while Northern Iowa may let you play WR or even QB, if that's what you want.

Plus a hearty congratulations to first-year Western Illinois head coach Bob Nielson for their win over Hampton. Some of us on this board have known him over the years. Very underrated head coach.

Hope he goes up to Minnesota and pulls one over on the Gophers -- the school that should have hired him when he was winning national titles at Minnesota-Duluth.

The Smurf Turf boys are trailing. Go Washington. I really didn't want to hear the cries of Bronco fans if the Broncos went undefeated this year. Because, you know, they don't have any ranked teams on the schedule.

I'm sure this blog by Drew Magary will offend a LOT of people

The only sport I know less about than US College Football is....no, I can't think of another sport.

Um, oh, um, wait, got it--WNBA.

Sorry, I found this piece on Deadspin funny. Here's the take on Texas A & M so you get the spirit of the thing

    7. Texas A&M. Football Bieber. It's not even close. Before Johnny Football arrived, A&M was just a boot camp for ugly people and aspiring arsonists. Now it's home to a sniveling, whiny, alcoholic redneck brat who deserves to have his name dragged through the mud. Five years from now, Johnny Football will be run out of the NFL and will be pissing in buckets and spitting on roadies backstage at Keith Urban concerts. He's a jackass. Get ready for 20 more single-half suspensions.

    Have fun!

The people in Clemson's stadium have rushed the field over a three-point win over a team ranked three spots higher -- at home. WTF?

Nebraska hanging on for dear life at home against Wyoming -- great start to the year the True Believers said was the program's best chance at a national championship since the team that got boatraced in the Rose Bowl. Big Red defenders already out in force writing off the performance as the defense not having any experience playing together (which, to be fair, is factually accurate). I'd say it was odd how Nebraska went away from the run when it was working so well, but Tim Beck seems to be bound and determined to play with all his toys every time out.

Wyoming averaged 7.3 yards per rush after being one of the worst rushing teams in the country last year. If Wyoming can put up 600+ yards, albeit with a quarterback who looked damn near NFL-quality, UCLA is going to cut this defense to shreds in two weeks.

I love the first week of college football (same for the NFL) you never really know how good (or how bad) teams are.
Oregon State's defense is going to have a long week. The worst stat of the game was that two thirds of Eastern Washington's first downs came on first or second down. Only a third required a third or fourth down.
Enough quality games this week to give you a good idea of what is what.
