That was a nice story. I'll miss Verne a lot. All the old time announcers of my adulthood are gone. Some of the new guys are very good (Nessler is, IMO) but it's not the same as hearing that voice that sounds cured in Pall Malls and Jack Daniels.

 

I've mostly enjoyed the sense of fun he brings to his broadcasts, but people in SEC markets shit on him and Danielson like it's their job.

 

What were the odds that Northern Illinois-Toledo on a weeknight was ever going to sell enough tickets to make it worth moving to the White Sox digs?

 

Verne is magnificent and I've always liked his willingness to poke fun at himself.

Duke makes untold millions from ACC TV deals alone and can't even build a visitors locker room attached to the actual stadium. That kind of nonsense wouldn't fly in 1-AA, why is it even allowed on this level? Idiotic.

 

Apparently you've never been to a game at Washington State, Oregon State, Arizona State or Washington.

 

The footage they showed had UNC coming out of a locker room, having to traverse the length of a practice field and then a parking lot just to reach the gates of the actual stadium. Is the Pac-12 that low rent?
