I love checking in at the Fargo Dome, if only for the decibel level.

My first thought was, this is quite the indictment of the entire transfer portal concept.

My second thought was, if a football program is that vulnerable to player defections, perhaps this is an example of "thinning the herd" in this new reality.

I think the head coach was popular, kids liked him and will transfer en masse to USM.

I'm sure if Marshall restocks, drops from 10-3 to 6-6 next year and avoids 25 opt-outs between Nov. 1 and Jan. 1, they'll get an invitation to the Plaza Azteca Fresh Avocados Bowl.

As tragic as it is to remember, this would not be the school's most daunting program rebuild.

I swear, I didn't see what I did there until you pointed it out. ;)

"We are Marshall" is filled with schlock but it's a pretty watchable movie, if only to see Matthew McConaughey in some of the ugliest 1970s-era clothing ever.

Someone needs to tell Gary Danielson he doesn't need to keep saying "this Navy team" or "this Army team." Just saying "Navy" and "Army" works just fine.

When Army goes for it on fourth down, they have the good sense to have the QB behind the center.

There's also the logistical difficulties. Whoever they get has probably dispersed the team already, had their own people leave in the portal, and done all the other things you do when you've shut it down for the year. Now they have to reactivate it all, two weeks removed from their last game and with two weeks to prepare. That's not an easy thing to do even if you want to.

Celebration Bowl ref doing a PSA before making the call. That it was a personal foul penalty somehow makes this a little more awesome.

Bowls have been a joke for so long and it isn't going to get better. The playoff is great and I'm all for it, but it will further do this to even the bigger bowls that exist outside of the playoff. NIL, transfer portal, and playoff doesn't equal good bowl games. That said, neither did the BCS and the 40 other bowls. It is holiday TV filler and nothing more.

My school is in a bowl for the first time in seven years. I have gone to four of their bowl games in my life, a couple of them pretty decent bowls in name and matchups, although one was definitely in a previous era. I had a blast at all of them and don't regret for a second attending. My wife legitimately asked if I was interested in going to this one, and I was like, why in the world would I do that? No-name matchup, barely even on TV, who knows what players will be there, doesn't matter a lick for anything at the end of the season other than another game. I honestly haven't felt that way in the past, even with the last few crap fests my school has gone to, but why would anyone bother these days?

If bowls are going to continue to exist for that holiday filler, they are going to need to make serious changes to make it worthwhile for these teams. Probably going to be a few more schools back out in the meantime.
