Still, they sound like fanboys or someone who has stock in Prime Inc.

Has Kirby ever intimated that he wants to coach in the NFL?

How much will Jerry offer him?

Among others, I covered Super Bowls 20, 22, 24 and 29 (combined score NFC winners 192-AFC losers 56) and my observation on routs in football championship games is that one of their primary causes is that the winners never let up, not for a second. Their moment of total triumph is so exhilarating they want to sustain it forever, so they just keep piling it on. I mean, during the second half of the 49ers vaporization of the Broncos, Jerry Rice was still going downfield on running plays and wiping guys out with blocks. Now, that's one reason why he was Jerry Rice, but if it had been a third week in October game, I'm not sure he would have shown the same zeal. So it was with Georgia last night.

To dixie's point, this thing is so detached from the rest of the college football season that it feels really weird. I don't know what you do. Admins are not going to go for losing home games and shortening the schedule to 11 games. You can't start the season in mid-August. To get the championship game on New Year's (or Jan. 2 or whatever), you'd have to start a 12-team playoff around when the bowl games start now (roughly Dec. 16). You're going to have to concede something. So maybe the Boca Raton Bowl doesn't get a dedicated spot on a December Tuesday. Maybe you have to play the Camellia Bowl or whatever against it on ESPN2. People will still gamble on it. That's what those things are all about anyway. I don't even think Minnesota fans cared as much about the Pinstripe Bowl as a few degenerates like myself did about the Gophers covering and going under. (Spoiler, neither hit.)

The other thing that strikes me is how common a 10-win season has become. That used to be enough to ensure publication of a coffee table book and free drinking privileges in at least one bar within walking distance of campus. I went down the rabbit hole to count, and there were 24 teams with double digit wins this season. Five of them didn’t even make the last poll!

There's a real argument to be made that Ohio State should have been ranked over TCU in the final poll.

It is an excellent poll for Jan. 3. Maybe AP needs to release between the bowls and the title game as a relief valve so writers feel like they are giving both semifinal winners proper credit.
