That WV win by Bama earlier in the year looks better by the week. What will be interesting to see is if the committee dings the SEC when they have FCS week before the big rivalry games.

Can anyone offer any insight as to how the committee is coming up with the rankings? Are they using any computer calculations, etc.? Or are they just running a win-loss beauty pageant? Throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks?

Anyway, I would like to know more about their methodology, and would think it is in their best interests to have some explanations out there before their final four picks are revealed.

I don't think they're projecting anything (like some polls do) It looks like wins, best win, worst loss based on SOS. Period. The second poll will be interesting though. In the end it will be conference champs (and co-champs) and those who have shown they belong in the discussion (such as a win against another conference champ).

Now what happens if the SEC West champ loses in the SEC championship will be interesting.

I'm curious if they will follow the old automatic system of "lose and you drop" or if they will be a little more thoughtful and say, "Well, No. 4 was SUPPOSED to lose to No. 1, and they did so by only a point on the road, so I'm going to keep them where they are until a team lower than them impresses me more.'

After reading what was on that link (The Score?) I can't even tell precisely what Saban said. This is what much of sports journalism has become, though. Purported "stories" are based on a bunch of tweets by folks that pedestrian at best. That link has almost zero direct quotes. Much of breaking news journalism has become Piggyback City and we are relying on sources that are less and less credible.

I don't see it happening either but I'm curious of how did FSU look any less shaky than Mississippi State, who needed a late bomb to beat a .500 team at home?

You really are one-note, aren't you?

But since you asked, I guess this is the difference:

Florida State has trailed in the fourth quarter four times this year.

Mississippi State hadn't trailed in the second half this year until Saturday.

I think it's a pretty legitimate question. FSU trailed against Louisville, top 25 team (barely), Clemson, top 25 team, Notre Dame, a top 10 team. Won all three games. Trailed against Auburn in the BCS Championship, won that game too. Is it any less of a championship because they trailed.

Like I said, like you said, I seriously doubt it happens. But again how did FSU look any less shaky than all mighty Mississippi State this week?

Being composed of individuals, it's likely the committee is currently using every means of evaluating teams proposed by persons on this thread as it starts its weekly rankings. I believe that one purpose of these rankings is to allow the committee to grope for a consensus on its standards as it gets closer to December 7, all the while praying events on the field make its job easier.

I have zero issue with either team being in the current top 4. Miss. St. is undefeated, they have a great win (Auburn) and a really good win (@ LSU). Season to date, their resume is as good as any in the country. Period. Florida State has won 24 in a row & is the defending national champ. They last lost nearly two calendar year ago. Period.

That's what counts, not the goofy minutiae. When the conversation veers into who's trailed the most / least times in the 2nd half......that's just (IMO) trying to makes facts bend to one's own agenda. Which, by the way, IS NOT meant as a shot at you, Steak. You know your stuff. It's just a convenient example of what's rapidly sucking the fun out of the sport.....

It's cool. I just mentioned I'd heard some chatter about Auburn jumping FSU this week (probably because I live in Alabama and am exposed to those opinions more). I never said there was any merit to it.

But the FSU backlash is real, both regarding their outlaw tendencies and apparent in-game vulnerability. As to whether that will permeate into the selection committee room, I doubt it.
