Exactly what I'm thinking. The committee is positioning Ohio State to sneak into the Fina Four. If Baylor or TCU lose, maybe if they don't, Buckeyes jump up, despite not playing a tough schedule and having a crappy loss. They don't want to leave out the Big Ten, Twelve, whatever they call themselves now. The other path is Miss St. If Alabama wins out, Dogs lose out on the SEC title game and drops. If Bama loses, Miss State's loss looks worse, and drops. Either way, Miss St.'s position is precarious.
Prediction: If Buckeyes get into the Final Four, any of the Top 3 whips their butts good.

Meh. Even as the resident fanboi, I'll buy Alabama kicking their butts. That's mostly because, IMO, 'bama whoops up on ANY of the other 3. They just look like the best team in the country, right now.

The rest? Feels like you can throw a blanket over them. Pretty much the same team. All are really good, all have exploitable flaws. I'd be willing to roll the dice with Urban. Pretty sure he won't pucker up at the thought of anyone they'd be paired up with.

I would not call Mississippi State's loss to Alabama a whipping of any form. State came out tight, got behind early and never caught up, but it was a competitive game. So I'm not sure Alabama is so superior to the other three just because that's what people thought they were in August.

Imagine how much the student-athletes could benefit from all that money.

Was really only speaking re: Ohio State. My feeling is simply that 'bama would be their worst match up. It's the only one of the 'surviving" team that I don't give them at least a 50/50 with.

I don't see an overwhelming / "great" team either. I just like the direction Alabama seems to be going. Defense wins championships may be a cliche, but they look pretty stout. Not overwhelmed by their offense, their parts seem better than the end product. In the case of Ohio State's defense vs. that offense, though...it's not pretty. That defense is just as young as their offense, but hasn't "grown up" at the same rate.

If it were an eight-team playoff this year, there'd be a lot less pointless arguing. Only the eighth spot would be up for debate right now.

Only the fourth spot is up for debate right now. What's the difference?

USC won't be invited even if they finish 10-3 by beating No. 11 UCLA, Notre Dame, and No. 3 Oregon -- with one of their wins being against No. 15 Arizona, which (could) beat No. 13 Arizona State, needed a Hail Mary to beat USC.

Makes no sense that Florida St is not #1. It makes me think that some of committee have been biased by some of the off field issues and want to penalize them.

They've had some big wins. Who cares if they've had to come back. Playing
the 'Canes on Saturday and coming away with a W was huge. Not an easy game. Home game for Miami and one of their biggest in a number of years.

Agree completely. It shows the committee has the same hard-on for the SEC that the AP voters have.

Yeah, you can hate Florida State right now for what's happening off the field, but they haven't lost yet.

There are no more layups in college football. It's harder than ever to win a game, let alone with 2nd-half comeback after comeback.

The committee has made me a fan of Florida St. I want to see them run the table.

Jimbo is probably happy with the ranking in that it's great bulletin board material.
