    Ugh. Follow along.

The original "nugget," was regarding the possibility of the playoff expanding to 8. One suggested way (by numerous pundits, including Ivan Maisel this week) was to play the quarterfinals at home stadiums, the 1st weekend of December. I noted that I'd love to see an SEC team have to travel north. I also believe this would be advantageous to the northern team.

Some respectfully disagreed. Some were snarky and condescending.

Even we northern folk can post pictures, with our sore, frozen fingers. Albeit, tiny ones. BRRR!!!!

Yes, it would be advantageous to the northern team.

Because they would be at home, and being at home is always an advantage.

Not because Amari Cooper would suddenly drop balls because they were a little harder than usual, whereas his northern counterpart would snatch everything because he's "used to it" (even though he may only play in such weather only 2-3 weeks a year).

    We'll disagree, which is fine.

Wouldn't it be fun to find out, though? To actually see a deep south team (not just 'bama) come north & deal with the elements, with their season on the line? Which was my point, to begin with.

I'm with Layman. The reason the Big 10 lost all those Rose Bowl games was their athletes were distracted by the SoCal beaches and babes after shoveling their way through 10-foot snowdrifts. Those losses had nothing to do with talent. ;)

Same thing would happen if Pac-12 or SEC teams traveled to the Upper Midwest. You know, the northern girls, with the way they kiss, they keep their (new SEC) boyfriends warm at night ... :D

I do agree it would be great to have national quarterfinal games at home stadiums, just for the cool home-field atmosphere if nothing else. Conference champs (well, four of them anyway) get to host a game.

I like the idea of expanding to eight teams and I like the idea of the top four teams hosting the bottom four teams.

I covered that game. It started snowing about 30 minutes before kickoff, and you could barely see Mississippi State's players from the press box.
I also remember the long, shitty drive home. Took me 2 1/2 hours to get there before the snow started. Took me eight to get home on the same stretch of unplowed interstate. Any time I went more than 20 mph, I damn near slid off the road like the other 100 or so cars I saw in the ditch that night. One guy went in right behind me. Watched his headlights change lanes, then make a left turn into the median and down an embankment. He was fine, but his car was stuck. I gave him a ride home.

Except for Iowa. Their losses were definitely due to talent. Or.....being mesmerized Coach Fry's glorious porn 'stache. Could be either.

Nah, back in the day the Big 10 teams had a hard time dealing with the Pac-10 (or Pac-8) teams' speed.

Eh, we've been hearing that for about four years now. OSU is 32-3 since Urban Meyer became coach. The object of the game is to win, doesn't matter whether by one point or 50 points.
