Mississippi State does not deserve to be No. 4, when 36 percent of its schedule has been Southern Mississippi, UAB, South Alabama and Tennessee Martin -- and 55 percent when you include Vanderbilt and Kentucky.

Funny thing about non-conference schedules and how they're weighted.

Baylor gets dogged for a shitty non-conference schedule that includes an FCS team (Northwestern State) that finished 6-6. But the FCS team they played beat an FBS team that is a win away from playing for a conference championship (Louisiana Tech).

Meanwhile, MSU's FCS punching bag also finished .500 but one of its six wins was over an NAIA school (Cumberland).

I agree that Arkansas is better than its record. However, I don't believe that theory is exclusive to the SEC West.

The No. 2 in the Big 12 is not really a No. 2 team. We've literally been dealing with 1A (TCU) and 1B (Baylor) for weeks with respect to top-four playoff spots, so to flip your argument, why shouldn't they get bonus points over someone else?

Why should Baylor with its two wins against current top-25 opponents with K-State still to come on Dec. 6, or TCU with its three, take a backseat to Mississippi State ... which has one?

    1. Alabama
    2. Oregon
    3. TCU
    4. Florida State

    5. Ohio State
    6. Baylor
    7. Arizona

Seminoles in free fall. But if all win, Alabama would face FSU in New Orleans. That would be awesome.

It also seems like Arizona would jump into the Top 4 if it beats Oregon Friday.

If Florida State and Arizona win, then I would think the undefeated team would be ahead of the two-loss team. At least it ought to. Also, it appears Baylor might as well forfeit the K State game. Obviously they never defeated TCU, the win that would've counted for them.

TCU is better than Baylor. ... except when they actually played each other.

I've come around to the idea that the committee is selecting the four best teams, but I don't know how an undefeated team can barely make the field. I think TCU is better than Baylor at this point. But ranking them ahead of FSU is absurd.

I don't have a horse in the race (hell, my horse isn't even near the stables), but I can't understand Florida State continuing to drop in the rankings for winning. I know it's not pretty, but what was pretty about Alabama giving up 628 yards of total offense in a 55-44 win over Auburn? What was pretty about Alabama holding on for a 14-13 win over Arkansas?

I'm quickly losing faith in this new "system."

If winning and losing aren't the primary criteria for selection, then the committee is just the same old happy horseshit of unverifiable opinions college football's been using forever. Better to go back to the pre-BCS bowls and polls. Nobody pretended that was anything besides they're number one because we say so.

Last I looked, Florida State was the only undefeated team. They began the season No. 1 and have been dropping because..... they don't win by a large enough margin? That's nuts.

Looking forward to seeing what happens if Alabama, TCU, Ohio State and Baylor win and Oregon & FSU lose.
