My response was to Sportsbook, who was beating his chest (your words) over the SEC's overall bowl record over the last three years. I pointed out that the SEC's record in the BCS bowls(what most folks considered the "important" bowls), over the same period, was a stellar 2-4....albeit with one "friendly fire" loss. 3-5 over the last 4 cycles. Only one "chest pounding" was Sportsbook.....about (as you put it) consolation bowls.

I wasn't so much talking about you as many other here, who are pre-emptively outraged over something that hasn't even happened yet.

    It's gotten tiresome.

I've heard it ONCE by an SEC fan and about three dozen times by others taking jabs at SEC fans.

I heard it from Nick Saban.

Fair enough. Agree that it's tiresome. Incredibly so. Didn't think it was possible for college football to ever be "ruined" for me. All the noise is doing a pretty good job of it.....

I concur. Some of my best days this football season were days in which I didn't watch a single second of college football and didn't get on Facebook to get all the reactions.

I think Facebook (all social media I guess) is what really ruins it for me. I actually have several Facebook friends who think the college football playoff should just be four SEC teams, that no other conference in the country has a single team worthy of competing with any of the top four SEC teams.

This is the only place where I read anything about the college football playoffs. When they talk, during games, about who's in and who's out, I flip to another channel until I think they're back to talking about the actual game. Way too early to be talking about that shit.
Don't really watch any sports TV that's not live games. So...pretty much avoided the thing, and it's kept me happy.

I wonder if ESPN made part of its contract making it a four team only playoff on the grounds of "we have so many hours of babbling head programming to fill." It's twice as much yak and twice as tiresome yak as it was for the BCS.

The funny thing about that was that the local media were all over that topic in advance of the game. Saban was assuring them that the coaches certainly had not forgotten the lesson learned when Utah kicked hell out of UA and that the team would not be allowed to come out flat.

So are we to assume that Oregon will replace Mississippi at number four, and otherwise the ratings will remain the same, with Alabama and TCU moving up a notch?

    Sounds about right

Yeah, I'd be really surprised if it was any other way. There's some chatter that Auburn could jump FSU to number 2, but I don't see the committee penalizing a team that is undefeated, however shaky they've looked.
