    Was unaware. Thanks for posting.
But what is the point of such an event in such a venue? It makes no sense to me.

To hold the record . . . until UCLA or Tennessee or Michigan tries to top it.

Iowa's women's basketball team is playing a scrimmage against DePaul at Kinnick Stadium in October . . . to try to set a women's hoops attendance record.

A vale shop? WTF? A bank, hack, even a high-end store of some sort. But, you’re going to throw your scholarship away to get some pipes? Weed? Dipshit.

Incalculable good publicity. It led Sportscenter and I was mesmerized. Also incalculable goodwill in-state. They included Omaha, a state school.

I see alot of these kind of things (playing a college basketball game on a battleship; playing a football game in Dublin) and I do an eye roll. This was super cool. Just my opinion.

Agreed. I watched the video this morning of the players coming out of the tunnel onto the field and was blown away. Very cool.

Having re-thought a little bit since posting earlier, I guess it's kinda cool for volleyball which I'm a fan of. Also aware of Nebraska's success and tradition in it.
Having stated that, I'm a hockey nut and roll my eyes at those outdoor games.

It's 79 degrees outside, going up to 85. 0% chance of rain. 59% humidity. (!) And I'm going to a home football game tonight. Hot damn!

We'll finally get a look at what Dilfer is doing with the team. North Carolina A&T, one of the better FCS teams, vs. UAB in the opening tuneup game. They're bringing a good HBCU show band with them. Gonna be a fun night.

ESPN+ if you're bored or curious. Look for me, I'll be the one in green.

I get it with the hockey. Great the first time, even the second.....

But man, the governor of Nebraska, in a thousand years, couldn't have thought up better publicity for the state.

Mrs. Gutter was at Memorial Stadium last night. Her seats were in the nearest end zone corner and said she could see just fine, but I imagine those in the far end zone were watching the video board the entire time.

One reason Nebraska did this was to take back the attendance record from Wisconsin, which broke the Creighton-Nebraska record set nine days earlier last year. A game hosted by Creighton nonetheless. It would’ve been nice if they played Creighton and gave the fans a good match instead of routing Omaha in a little over an hour.

Good on Nebraska for pulling that off. They truly do love the volleyball team, and women’s college volleyball is a blast to watch (especially in the Big Ten).

At least they found a way to beat Wisconsin.
Can’t do it in football. Can’t do it in volleyball.

By the time it would be warm enough to try outdoors gymnastics, it’s time for postseason and no way are they gonna gimmick that up. Plus I’ve got to think an ill-times wind gust could have far more catastrophic consequences for that sport.
