SEC fans have ditched Dean Chambers for Jeff Sagarin.

KSU, Oregon and Notre Dame are a little too high in those Sagarin rankings. I'd think about moving the rest up and sliding Missouri, Arkansas and Kentucky in at the bottom of the top 10. Otherwise, pretty good list.

This. What revisionist bunk Versatile is spinning. There was never any point in that game where it looked like Michigan had any hope of getting into the end zone against that defense.

You probably need to dock Alabama for not beating Michigan worse than they did too, what with Bama being so much better than Notre Dame and all.

And you also probably need to dock the Tide for losing at home to a Texas A&M team that itself lost at home to a Florida team that damn near lost to Louisiana-Lafayette and Bowling Green. At home.

And you might also dock Bama for being thoroughly outplayed by LSU and being extraordinarily lucky to escape with a win. And for playing more losing teams on its schedule, and more crappy little mid-majors, then the other contenders.

The "style points" game can be twisted all sorts of different directions.

And Notre Dame should get bonus points for not playing any FCS teams this season and playing more BCS conference teams than KSU, Oregon or Bama.

I never thought I'd see the day: SportsJournalists.com rallying around Notre Dame.

On the Notre Dame scale, we can probably give Florida at least three losses for struggling with teams far beneath them. Yet there they are in the top 10.

And you've got to dock South Carolina since they lost their best player for the year.

And here's a fun little stat:

Only 5 of the 12 teams on Bama's schedule are over .500. And, of those five, they lost to one (A & M), got thoroughly outplayed by a second (LSU), and a third was merely a gimme little mid-major (WKU).

That leaves Bama with only two convincing wins over BCS teams over .500.

How does that factor into the style points game?

Michigan had five drives inside the 30. They got to the seven-yard line, the 10-yard line twice, the 16-yard line and the 15-yard line.

Give major credit to ND for holding Michigan to six points on those drives. But it's not like Michigan never crossed midfield.

In that case I misread the ESPN drive chart. Apologies. But really, once it was 10-0 it was over.
