I've always felt like if the G5 could have mobilized and found a sponsorship situation and willing TV network to carry a playoff between the five conferences they would jump all over it.

And to be honest, I'm kind of surprised it hasn't happened. Especially with the bowl games that are already tied into those conferences. Why not try to give the Camellia Bowl a boost in importance?

Lewis Grizzard had it right. Two mules fighting over a turnip.

I'd say the biggest hook for coaches of marginal bowl teams is three extra weeks of practice or whatever it is. For the fans, it's a travel opportunity, at least in a majority of the cases, and potentially a new and interesting opponent (when I was a CMU student, we played Purdue in one bowl and FAU in the other. I was much more excited about the former). For the television networks, it's easy programming in many cases before bored captive holiday audiences (which is why ESPN runs so many of them now). For the local business community, it's a hook to try and spur tourism business and sell a couple sponsorships.

The bowl system is dumb and antiquated still provides return on investment more often than not, just not as much as it used to.

It was even funnier growing up near Toledo to watch each fanbase’s obnoxiousness trade place depending on which program dominated the rivalry.

I dumped my Ohio State fandom once I went to college elsewhere and then lost all feeling for sports (and life in general!) covering sports.

Re-activating the fan in me post-newspaper has made their behavior even funnier. And living in Indiana/Purdue territory gave me an appreciation for Big Ten fans who are only 50 percent crazy.

You might remember that a former Ole Miss player is suing the school and Lane Kiffin for $40 million. The player was claiming emotional distress; claimed the Ole Miss coaches ignored his situation in violation of university policy; then ghosted several meetings with them coaches and was eventually kicked off the team. The lawsuit claims the player, Desanto Rollins, was being discriminated against because of race and sex.
I don't know the law enough to tell if there is some angle that might have validity, but the common sense test had it smelling like bullshit. In any event, Kiffin and Ole Miss filed their motion to dismiss and some audio of a meeting between Rollins and Kiffin (of which a transcript had previously been released) has been released.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Kiffin's a great guy, right?

Worth reading about the facts of the case before you pass judgment on this one.

Things appear to be going great down in Ruston, where Sonny Cumbie tries to pretend he's Lincoln Riley by yanking a reporter's credentials for not being "supportive enough."
It's even worse when the reporter is a Louisiana Tech alum and a self-admitted homer.
Louisiana Tech went 3-9 last season and is 3-7 this year.

Virginia player Perris Jones carted off the field after this hit, and wild play. Looks like he got popped on top of the head.

    Reckless hit that goes unflagged.
