Here's my very simple, not original take on Michigan: 1. Are they guilty? Almost certainly yes. 2. Is the Big Ten's means of administering this punishment bullshit? Also yes, because they know doing the proper process would take so long as to render it meaningless.

Was this the college football equivalent of a drumhead trial at the behest of a scarlet-tinted mob? Probably, though the Veterans Day angle was clever. Even Roger Goodell has to be impressed.

Well said. I rescind my claim of recklessness. In the rule book, however, is this a strict liability deal? Does it matter if the ball-carrier dipped his head? I don’t know either way.

I think there’s always a judge on call for TRO requests. I suspect a local judge will be eager to grant.

I think if there was any penalty it'd be on the ball carrier. I know in the NFL they changed it a few years ago to make it a penalty of the offense if the runner lowers his head. You don't see it called very often, though. Not sure if the change filtered down to college and high school as well. @MileHigh could chime in on that.

One of the things about the Michigan sign-stealing scandal that has contributed to its place in the zeitgeist are the downright exquisite names.

Here's another one. The MGoBlog poster whose eloquent legal defense appears to have been plagiarized by Harbaugh's own lawyers is an Ann Arbor native and a founding partner of a law firm named Rushing McCarl.

I have not, but I believe "the Entertainer" music is used in The Sting as well as in the Iowa/Northwestern highlight clip.

MH will climb in as well…..funny this came up….there was offensive targeting called on a ball carrier tonight.
    I saw the film….100% correct.

Agree. If there was any chance that the NCAA would pull their thumb out and do something before the playoff, this imperfect punishment would never have happened. The pressure was on Petitti to do something, because it was so blatant and obvious. I don't think that suspending Harbaugh is severe enough, especially not if they're going to let him game plan and run practices as normal. Ban 'em from the playoff (or if the B10 had banned them from the league championship) and that shit never happens again. Michigan fans sound just like SEC fans I've heard whining after their team got caught cheating. I have zero sympathy.

That's one helluva good team, that's the real shame of it. They didn't need to do this. It's the arrogance of it, and the "whaddaya gonna do about it" attitude that really chaps me.
