Exactly what I thought when I read this a few minutes ago.
And when I read references to "shower-rapes" and "ass-rapes" on this site.
It's reprehensible and much worse, even, than LeBron's "that's retarded" comment a few months ago.

I've got relatives and a friend or two, as I'm sure you do Hecht, who've endured a "rape" and with comments like yours and others here, you sound as if rape is somehow rationalized.

    Grow up.

Best I can tell, LSU-Arky is a semifinal game for LSU, maybe for Arky too if Alabama goes to Atlanta.

But I can't see how LSU doesn't play in the title game with a win over Arky regardless of what happens in Atlanta. Even losing to Georgia, LSU would just join the 1-loss brigade and would be the one with wins over Alabama, Oregon and Arkansas and the one loss would be to 11-2 (or 10-3, let's not assume a UGa. win over Tech) Dawgs in Atlanta.

And Boise fans would be SOOOOO pissed.

Wow the refereeing this weekend was atrocious. It seems like every Sunday this season some commissioner somewhere has released an apology letter to some screwed-over team.

At what point does the NCAA step in to rectify this situation? Say, decide to take control of all officiating in BCS football, instead of having the leagues oversee their refs? I'd like to see the NCAA hire enough refs to provide for one crew chief per game -- dreaming, I know, but it would be even better if refereeing was that ref's full-time job. And yes, I know the NFL doesn't have this so why should the NCAA? Well, because it's a multi-billion-dollar business and there are plenty of fishy things going on with these refs.

You mean like all those delightful little references to Pedophile State U.?

    Yeah, got to agree.

Knowing some college officials and hearing their schedule, it's almost full time as it is. Making them full time won't change how the game is played, how fast it is and how difficult it is. Not defending some of the calls, but these guys do lots of tests and watch lots of film during the week as it is. I do, however, think there should be one uniform association for officials, not just done by the leagues.

Look, everyone's human. You miss a call, you miss a call. It happens. But surely no matter the level, whether it's high school, I-A, D-III or the NFL, the refs ought to know the damn rules.

You blew the whistle because you thought the guy was down and he wasn't? OK, you fucked up. It happens. Don't fuck it up more by misapplying the rule.

You weren't sure whether the FG was good? OK, fine, it happens. But don't fail to check the most obvious replay angle and admit that you were wrong.

Agreed. Especially the whistle in Tennessee-Vanderbilt. That is ingrained in you from the first day of football officiating. 1. Inadvertent whistles are death. 2. Once you blow the whistle, the play is over.

Well, neither the NBA, NFL or World Series champions won their divisions, either.

I thought the fact that the officials called an intentional grounding on USC in the second quarter on a timing route where Barkley threw a slant and Robert Woods ran a fade route was the worst call I had seen this year. Congratulations to the Vandy/Tennessee officials for making PAC-12 officiating crews look competent.

LSU's in the BCS title game if they beat Arkansas, right? Even if they lose to Georgia (and it's not some sort of 40-point blowout), I'd have a hard time justifying there being two one-loss teams that are more deserving based on their body of work during the season.
