If we all agree that you were right, will you give it up already?

Bowden was canned by West Virginia. Gene Stallings sucked at aTm. Both won titles at different schools.

All this bleating doesn't negate the root of all the ragging: that Notre Dame is a middle-of-the-pack program that should be happy with the 8-4 record it will have after Stanford wins.

Bowden was not fired by WVU -- hell, his final WVU team went 9-3 in 1975 and won the Peach Bowl.

Sherrill left Texas A&M under a cloud and then won an SEC West championship at Mississippi State. He was 20 games over .500 through 10 years, but a disastrous last three dropped his final record to 75-75-2. But still, all things considered, what Jackie did in Starkville was a God damn miracle.

Switzer left Oklahoma under a cloud and later won a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys. I thought that's what you meant by "higher level."

And as an Alabama grad, I can't believe I forgot about Stallings.

    Yes!

That is all I want. I want one person to say, "You know what? I was wrong. South Florida is not better than Notre Dame. In hindsight, it wasn't so ridiculous to think that Notre Dame was going to be better than USF this year."

One person. That's all I want.

Just a reminder for those out there who would deep-throat Notre Dame cock. And let's reserve judgment until the bowls are over; they could still finish with the same mark, and who would hold the tiebreaker?

Barry Switzer voted for them No. 1 in the final coaches' poll that year.

This is high comedy from the guy who thinks Houston should be in the BCS Championship game.

The biggest difference between now and then is that non-BCS teams actually get some of their games on national TV.

Houston's closest (and best) wins came against a mediocre UCLA team and a LA. Tech team that was thumped by Hawaii.

Evidence would seem to suggest that South Florida does in fact suck more than Notre Dame sucks, and that Notre Dame is in fact marginally better than the second-worst team in the country's worst BCS conference.
