Southern Miss at Houston in C-USA also has BCS bowl implications

Strange year for Florida State. Beating Miami and Florida while losing to Wake, Clemson and Virginia. Third place finish in Atlantic just isn't good enough given their talent level.

Len Dawson and Bob Griese's Hall of Fame plaques might beg to differ. And Drew Brees likewise appears Canton-bound.

And I might point out that Phipps did last 12 season in the NFL, about half of those as a starter (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/P/PhipMi00.htm) He wasn't a good NFL QB, but he also wasn't a wash out.

No slight on Brees. I'm a big fan, but I and others had early reservations, because of his height, which ain't 6', no matter what the program might say.

Had put Dawson mentally aside, because I had little use for his sleazy "friends".

So I went to the final Border War (for the time being, anyway) at Arrowhead yesterday. Announced crowd of 47K. There were maybe 40 there. Maybe. Entire sections were empty on the Beaker side. That includes the lower deck.

Turner Gill might be the worst coach on two feet. Mizzou kicked the door open to a 21-point deficit in the first half by throwing three brutal interceptions. The beakers refused to walk through.

It's amazing how quick they fell apart. The only thing the KU offense did all game was embark on a nine-minute drive in the fourth quarter -- down by 14 points, mind you -- without any sense of urgency that allowed them to keep the score close.

I'm sad to see the Border War go. But if the Beakers want to take their ball and go home, fine.

Can someone please tell me the Ron Zook era is over at Illinois?

Started 6-0 and finish 0-6 for a 6-6 record. And the offense in those last 6 games comes up with a grand total of 66 points.

Surely all these 6's means something.

Wait a second. The NCAA argues against a football playoff because they say a team will be playing too many games.

For years, teams played an 11-game schedule. Put 16 teams in a playoff, and the two final teams will have played 15 games.

And yet, if UCLA, and others in conference title games go to a bowl, they'll now be playing 14 games.

So how the fuck can the NCAA say that a playoff means too many games for a team with a straight face?

Yeah, I know. The same straight face they give when they talk about "amateur" athletics.

You are correct, Baron. NCAA actions are often hypocritical and devoid of logic. Now, who do you like in Bedlam? And do you think Michigan can squeeze out a BCS bid?

Haven't seen this on here yet (forgive me if I overlooked it), but Larry Porter is gone at Memphis:

I think I'll put it up on Bleacher Report that Freeze has the job...

Classy. My family struggles every week because I can't find a job. I worked a lead and it gained steam, but people like you who apparently are too good to use whatever means necessary to feed your family want to take it out on a young journalist.

really make me want to stay in the business and work with folks like you. [\sarcasm]
