So Clemson and Penn State get utterly bitch-slapped, and they fall, respectively, four and three places?

Of course, looking at the others receiving votes, that's probably more a product of there not being a team worth a damn to replace them.

Stoney...I work at a chicken plant for $8 an hour and my wife works at a day care for $10 an hour - part time. In my spare time I do my best to change my life for the better. And sports reporting for $9-10 an hour would be much better for my family.

You jerks who don't know me or what I am about but want to pass judgement really chap my ass.

Forget it. I thought being here would help. Guess not.

Not whining at all, nor am I a USC fanboi.

The NCAA clearly had Ohio State dead-to-rights last year, knowing it used ineligible players and that its head coach had withheld incriminating info. Yet, the Buckeyes were allowed to play in a BCS game, and have not yet been significantly penalized (ie bowl ban, etc.) forfurther infractions uncovered this year.

North Carolina's football program was clearly out of control under Butch Davis. Yet in the NCAA's charges, a lack of institutional control was not included, which is almost beyond belief considering how Blake acted and the staggering number of players who received illegal benefits. It would not surprise me to see them lose scholarships, but still be OK for bowls.

Miami, a serial cheater, has never received a bowl ban (to my knowledge) and I'd be shocked if it ever gets an official one from the NCAA. This year's ban is self-imposed, a bone thrown to the NCAA, and no big loss since the Canes are awful anyways.

As you said, the lack of punishment for Auburn speaks for itself.

And if I remember the USC case correctly, the primary recepients of the illegal benefits were Reggie Bush's parents, not him. He was already at USC when the benefits started, so there was no competitive advantage to be gained.

Auburn, which should have been pounded six feet under forevermore, for the Cam atrocity. Nothing new, there . . . Auburn could never manage to reach the promised land in football without cheating. Ever. And no deflections or obfuscations will ever convince me different.

Now . . . I'm not in the business of defending Penn State, but in terms of pure recruiting conduct (at least in the eyes of the NCAA) . . . Joe dotted his i's and crossed his t's. What's going on there now is beyond atrocious, of course, but it doesn't involve athletic recruiting (we hope, pray God . . . and we're not talking about Jerry's sordid "recruiting" activities).

The NCAA should have flagged Mr. Sweatervest even before he reached OSU, but didn't bother.

Of course, Miami has a history of being a running sore.

And we patiently-await the inevitable Boise investigation, as previously noted.

IIRC, JoePa was quoted to the effect of (regarding college football): "Enjoy the spectacle, but don't look too close."

You have to savor that. Talk about talking in riddles.
