It probably won’t happen, but I think Oregon-Alabama would be a great semifinal. The two teams match up well IMHO and of course there’s the Bo Nix against the SEC storyline.

I’m as Grinchy as they come about the Rose Bowl and even I think they ought to rig it for one last B1G-PAC-12 matchup.

Agreed … which means we’ll probably see Georgia against Florida State in Pasadena! ;)

Again the fact that Tennessee is ranked is fucking laughable. But there's something to be said for that 9-game conference schedule and facing potentially another top 40 team in your conference than Chattanooga.

Those games will always exist. Or are we not supposed to notice the Ducks hanging 86 on mighty Portland State in the season opener?

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Whoever is left out of the CFP final four it won't be among the top 10 as far as teams feeling they got screwed out of a shot to be a champion. This has been going on for decades. Look up Alabama 1966 for one example.

Much like SEC honks are asking us not to notice Texas beating Bammer by double digits in their house or asking us not to notice FSU absolutely destroying LSU when trying to discredit the Seminoles. This has not be a banner year for the mighty SEC in their non-conference endeavors. Best win is probably Missouri over Kansas State or Mississippi State over Arizona early in the year, but I'm sure I'm missing one.

    This is honking?

Bama needs a win Saturday and either Texas or FSU to get upset in order to get a bid. That’s been clear virtually all month.

Tomato, tomahto. They have the same record as Oregon State and a comparable schedule (lost to some heavyweights, beat some middle-of-the-road 25-35-ranked teams). If you don't rank them you have to rank the likes of UNLV, N.C. State, etc. It's not like some worthy teams are out there banging on the door to get ranked.

I'll gladly take two "potential top 40" teams on the schedule if I can remove one the TWO top-5s UT plays every damn year.

Kind of surprised that SMU didn't crack the Top 25. I think it sets up a pretty straightforward scenario for the G5 bid -- Tulane is in with a win, Liberty is in with a win and a Wave loss. I suppose if SMU were to beat Tulane by five touchdowns and Liberty were to squeak by NMSU, the Ponies could get it. But I don't know if having a two-loss team getting that bid over an undefeated team is a good look. I don't care what your schedule is, going 13-0 isn't easy.

I was thinking the same thing while they were absolutely waxing Navy and then the starting QB broke his leg. Unless the freshman coming in just destroys Tulane, I don't see it.
