I'd have to think hard on it. I thought Fuente was the right hire when it was made. It's increasingly clear he isn't the guy from an Xs and Os standpoint, from a time management standpoint, from his inability to hire strong staff/coordinators, inability to connect with alumni, inability to recruit the state. I don't see a path for success in Blacksburg for him. And as you've pointed out several times, football is the absolute bell cow at Tech, and the program cannot fall into such a state of disrepair that scrapping to finish .500 is a yearly battle. Tech's basketball program is fine but has a pretty built in ceiling -- that Sweet 16 team that nearly made the Elite 8 a few years back, that's probably as good as it gets there.

Tech fans got so goddamn spoiled in the late 2000s/early 2010s. I remember complaints of "ho-hum, back to the Orange Bowl again." We'd kill for that now. We had no idea how good we had it. I've said that this season is a farce/outlier, and if I were judging Fuente solely on this season, it would be pretty harsh. But this has been bubbling for at least three years now. At the very least, it needs to be dictated that he cleans house on his offensive and recruiting staffs. I think it would be super unfair to judge the new defensive coordinator, who missed the first few games with the rona and lost his best player to an optout right before the season. I have no idea if he's good or not. Cornelson? There's a huge sample size there and he's proven he's not the right guy to run the offense.

I don't know if I need to see Arkansas get demolished by Alabama this weekend. We can just COVID that one away ...

The Blytheville, Arkansas, native relied on great defense and special teams to carve out an impressive 86-31-2 record with the Longhorns but could never rally a fickle fan base that had wanted Royal’s defensive coordinator Mike Campbell to replace the legendary coach after the 1976 season.

Apparently, Tom Petty and Benmont Tench were not on Royal's staff and were not considered for the top job.

Can’t push Harbaugh out for losing to Ohio State if you don’t play Ohio State. C865CA5A-128E-476D-A40C-C238D6B4B7B4.jpeg
