The system is definitely a factor. It was for Mike Rozier, Bo Jackson, Vinny Testaverde, Andre Ware and a bunch of others. The trick is making the system work for you.

My point is that if the debate is even remotely close, someone else will get the award. How many repeat Heisman winners have their been? Do you really want to put Manziel in that elite of a group?

I do suspect a lot of the old guard in the media feels a need to teach the kid a lesson, while also sort of covering their own butts for voting for a freshman and then watching him make a royal ass of himself and try to cash in. You don't mess with the media because the media always has the last laugh. Even presidents eventually learn that.

It won't be that hard to pick someone else.

O.J., Mike Garrett and Charles White are very concerned about their Heismans being revoked.

I do, if he's the most outstanding player this season. I think Marcus Mariota should and will get a good, long look for the award. I also think Johnny Manziel should and will get a good, long look for the award.

O.J. has other things to be concerned about at the moment.

Doug Flutie, Gino Torretta, Ty Detmer, Danny Wuerffel, Eric Crouch, Jason White and Tim Tebow all won the Heisman.

Peyton Manning, Kurt Warner, Drew Brees, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers and Andrew Luck never did.

Roger Staubach, Jim Plunkett and Vinny Testaverde all won the Heisman Trophy.

Scott Hunter, John David Booty and Marcus Vick never did.

Last time I checked the Heisman was a college award.

Joe Montana, John Elway and Dan Marino never won it, either. All those guys had OUTSTANDING collegiate careers.

My point is that it's a VERY poor indicator of how good a quarterback will turn out to be.

The two biggest rip-offs of my lifetime were Manning losing to Danny Wuerffel and Luck losing to Robert Griffin. Luck was penalized, IMO, because he had a better supporting cast and didn't have to make the jaw-dropping plays that Griffin did.

So we shouldn't debate who wins a college award because they might not be a good pro QB?

He had a (much) better supporting cast and still had worse statistics, both in terms of output and efficiency.

The douchebaggery is what makes Manziel fun. It's awesome. He doesn't care about listening to the NCAA overlords.

No, it makes him a douchebag. Dozens of QB's don't act like an asshole and point to the scoreboard in a game their team is supposed to win by 30+.
