You may like your athletes to be robotic. I don't mind them having a little fun doing their non-academic activity.

Yes, if you have a better supporting cast, chances are your statistics will be down, because you don't have to carry the team every week, the way Griffin did.

Bottom line.. some years there are 3 or 4 deserving players and other years there might not be any. I'd say this year is somewhere in between.

I like them to have fun also. I watched three college games on Saturday and didn't see Keith Price, or Andy Murray, or James Franklin (before he got hurt) or Mariota point at the scoreboard and pop their jersey like an asshole.

So Robert Griffin III had to carry his team more than Andrew Luck. And he did it by being more productive and more efficient than Luck. And he had more spectacular plays than Luck.

But Luck deserved the Heisman Trophy.

There's only been one guy in the history of the Heisman to win it twice --- Archie Griffin. (I looked it up because I figured someone else might have done it before I was born, but no.) When you consider all the amazing players to play college football in the last 78 years..... that's pretty freakin amazing.

That fact alone will keep Manziel from winning it this season.

I have listened to the revisionist history about how Vince Young should have won the Heisman over Reggie Bush years ago and it's as bad as the argument for Luck.

People are basing the Young-Bush argument on what Young did in the NC game.

Bush was an unreal player, he did things on a field that were just amazing. No one can tell me that Vince Young was better that season than Bush.

It's not like Luck shit the bed his junior year. His team went 11-2.

I will grant you this... in the past 15 years or so, the running has become more open. There are just soooo many more games available on TV and online. Used to be there were 2-3 guys who entered the season as front-runners based on their accomplishments in previous years and if one of those had a big game against a good opponent early in the season, they pretty much sewed it up.

Doug Flutie (1984), Barry Sanders (1988) and Andre Ward (1989) were sort of the exceptions of guys off the radar who just piled up such huge numbers that it swayed voters.

Curious, but do you look at numbers or statistics before you say anything or do you base all your opinions on gut?

You actually think Young was better than Bush? You'd be very, very wrong.

Bush ran for 1,740 on 200 carries (8.7 per) had 16 TD's and caught 37 for 478 and another two TD's. He added another 493 on KR and 179 on PR and he split time with LenDale White.

I don't know how you compare RB stats to QB stats, but Bush was amazing.

Young had more than 3,000 yards passing and seven yards shy of 1,000 yards on the ground. 38 total touchdowns that season. I'd say Young had the better season.

Damn, it's not all about statistics, people. If it was Neil Lomax won have won the Heisman at Portland State or Steve McNair at Alcorn State.

Strong point. He had far more passing yards than Reggie Bush.
