I don't think anyone is arguing that he isn't pretty good. I just want to know if he won the Heisman tonight. The preseason favorites are pretty much eliminated due to their teams' lack of success. So, who's it going to be? Ryan? Ray Rice? Dixon? Dorsey? Selvie? Grothe? Brennan?

    Agreed.

My point is all I've heard about him is how good he is. Then they show the teams they've played the last four weeks. Ryan has the measureables, but I didn't see what I thought I'd see tonight. Some of that was the weather, some was Va. Tech's defense and some was Ryan.

Yes he took his team down the field twice to win the game. Yes he made several great throws off balanced. Yes he got the job done in crunch time when he pretty much blew all night.

Overrated was too strong for me to say. Overhyped was more like it. I stand corrected.

You must have tuned in late. They kicked the shit out of BC's line all night. Looks like they were gased by the end. Bad job of coaching by Va. Tech of leaving them out there. Got to get fresh kids in in that situation.

Fair enough, I hadn't watched anything before that point. I've just always been in favor of putting some pressure on a QB in that situation.

Hockeybeat, no he did not win the Heisman tonight. He just didn't lose it. It's way too early to be handing out Heisman, though it does seem late after last year's was handed out on Sept. 2 or so.

OK, so your source is pretty good. Perhaps a genius. Who knows?

McNabb only McNabb's on the field. See, Jacksonville '02. Super Bowl '05 and Tampa Bay '06.

I'm with you Boobie. God I hate the prevent.

An old columnist friend of mine once wrote: The prevent is designed to prevent one thing - winning.

But as someone said earlier, not sure VT was in a prevent. They weren't bringing the house all night. Maybe they were tired, maybe Ryan figured out ways to get away from them, who knows? Vince Hall, VT's best linebacker, didn't play. Didn't seem to make a difference most of the game. Maybe it would have at the end. Who knows?

And to get to HB's question Ryan didn't win my Heisman tonight. He remains on the list.

Guilty as charged, then. I turned on when I got the "Hey, are you watching ESPN?" phone calls and was just appalled by what I saw. I was hoping they were gassed and am now happy that you say that. But boy, just a little bit more pressure, even a finger on Ryan, might have changed that last two minutes.

Did you forget about Woodson and Tebow?

    Instant Classic-level game?

No one in Boston will see that game until it gets replayed on ESPN Classic.
