Correct. He was here during the '96 championship run as Ricky P's top assistant.

Also, WLEX has yet to run a retraction to clear Bird's name of any wrongdoing in this. Darrell is a great reporter and I, just like centralkykid, hate to see him getting burned for this.

Donovan was at Marshall in 1996. He went to Florida in 1997. He was at UK in the early 90s. I think his last year was with the Mashburn team which went to the Final Four.

My bad. His last year was the Mashburn Final Four team.

"If Gillispie didn’t become the 14th basketball coach in Arkansas history, the source said Kansas’ Bill Self and Southern California’s Tim Floyd would be contacted next."

Methinks Billy Clyde is going to get a nice pay raise by the end of the week no matter what happens.

But Billy, Arkansas is better than Kansas! By ... one letter!

I'm sure O.J. Mayo would love Arkansas. Oh wait, Mayo's only going to USC to get into a huge media market. It has nothing to do with Floyd.

And MM, am I missing something? its two letters.

is this serious? Arkansas realizes that it's in Arkansas, right?

    Here's a better list:

    Winthrop's Gregg Marshall
    Xavier's Sean Miller
    GW's Karl Hobbs
    Baylor's Scott Drew
    Wichita State's Mark Turgeon
    UNLV's Lon Kruger
    Oregon's Ernie Kent
VCU's Anthony Grant (though they went this way last time)

Just spit-balling, but these would seem to be the guys who have the pedigree and would consider the gig ...

Not sure Karl Hobbs would be down with going to Arkansas. If he did that he'd have to coach at a place that puts pressure on you to win.

An Arkansas booster would think Arkansas starts with R, perhaps.

Not that I much care but you can't spell Arkansas without Wal-Mart and it's Walton billions that are feeding the school and program. The gym is Walton Arena after all and I'm pretty sure that they can spell. You don't get to be the wealthiest family in the world by being stupid.
So let Mizzou be the one who engages in South-bashing please.
It will be hugely embarassing to Arkansas to fire a relatively successful coach, then have the first and, reportedly, only choice to pass. Especially if Heath turns around and has a new job before Arkansas has a new coach.
