Not the top of the heap, but S.C. State fired Jamal Brown today, supposedly for Title IX violations.
I'm kind of curious how a men's basketball coach could be fired for Title IX violations. Only thing I can think of is that he refused to allow a female student manager or something like that.

Found at least a couple answers to the S.C. State thing.

School could be in a world of hurt pretty soon.

Wow. Charlene Johnson hasn't done much right in Orangeburg. She could be next.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least.
Any chance they go after Rick Duckett at SoCar? I know he's been mentioned for every mid-major opening in the SE in the past two years. Why not this one?

Question is, who backs Duckett? If it's Johnson, I would give things a little time to settle down. As unstable as S.C. State has been, someone has to evaluate Johnson's ability to hire the right people and how much responsibility she should absorb. Aside from Buddy Pough and the football program, has much of anything gone right in Orangeburg the last few years? No point in Duckett going there only for him to be tossed out along with everyone else.

Latest rumor out of Iowa City is that Rick Majerus will be the next coach at Iowa.

    Sure...

He's been in the ESPN lights too long. I don't think he'll ever coach again.

The Iowa City Restaurant Owners Association has announced it is in complete support of Rick Majerus as the next coach at the University of Iowa.

Well, he might be -- for a day or two.

OK ... somebody please explain to me why anyody would want Rick Majerus as their coach. His resume is just not that great yet everybody seems to think he's a potential savior. I'm probably missing something, but that's one guy I just do not get.

I figured when he backed out his commitment to USC a couple years ago, that probably had to be it for him. And I'm sure the Trojans are OK with that after the fact, given how Tim Floyd's done there.

Word on the street (infallible as always) ::) says Michigan is zeroing in on Beilein.

One catch, however: the Detroit high school coaches/AAU coaches/street agents, who pretty much run recruiting in the state, are making all sorts of threatening noises if they don't get a candidate "they can live with." ::)

(Don't have to spell that one out in black and white -- or green. )
