Probably couldn't handle all those lazy Princeton kids not caring about academics. U of D should help him find his niche again.

Not a bad hire. Kind of interesting that the Jayhawks play The Valley's Southern Illinois this week, given this news.

One down, three to go in the Mountain West. Katz reports U. of New Mexico and Iowa's Steve Alford are close to agreement.

As an Iowa fan, I think I speak for most Hawkeyes when I say: THANK GOD!!
Another case of an arrogant ass running out of town one step ahead of the posse. Good luck, Stevie.
Eight seasons, two NCAA bids, one NCAA win and a Northwestern State 3-pointer that's burned on my retinas thanks to CBS and ESPN playing it ad nauseam this March.
Anybody have any idea who the Hawks will hire?

I was told Mike Katowinski was getting the Lobos job to complete the Hang Time takeover of the Land of Enchantment ...

    1983, Slap.....
If only they'd kept Dr. Tom around. The man knew how to get to NCAA Tournaments and actually - gasp - win NCAA games.
Iowa went from a team that was a second-round regular and occasional Sweet 16 team to one that can barely sniff the Big Dance at all.

Obviously, it's not an upward move, but would you consider it a lateral move?

I'd consider it a bit of a move down.... but Alford needed to get out of Iowa City before he got run out next year.
The Hawks didn't even make the NIT this year, and attendance/interest in the program was down.

I heard Katie Hnida is recruiting Daniella Deutscher to play shooting guard under her alias Julie Connor. After all, they are cool with women playing men's sports in New Mex !

Saint Louis and Charlotte were in dire straits when Louisville, Cincy, Marquette, DePaul and USF bolted for the Big East. Perhaps the Billikens should have tried to get in the Valley, but where would Charlotte have landed?

You have to remember that in 2005 no one was really talking much about the CAA. There was some talk about the Mo Valley, but back then the A-10 was still considered a peer of Conference USA. The other two conferences really weren't. So, the ADs at Charlotte and Saint Louis really had no choice but to join the A-10.
