Ace, you know better. I'm not a crappy one now. haven't been since 1996. Now go wash you mouth out with soap and repeat 100 times "I''m sorry boots!" 8)

How about I wash my mouth out with some pork rinds from the vending machine instead?

    Just playing.

    "I'm sorry, boots!"

Another job you're wasting your time on. They already know who they want.

I know it's not the popular sentiment around here, where everyone thinks they get screwed out of every opening, but why wouldn't a SE want to target someone he knows can do the job? Paper's fine. Anyone can dress up a resume and find a few good clips. But flesh and blood is much easier to feel comfortable with.

All I'm saying is that in many of these jobs beyond the Podunk Piss Register and Daily Rap, the posting of a job is a mere formality. The hire has been targeted.

Fair enough. But I will say that I've gotten a call from a major metro before from one of these postings. So it's not impossible.

Exactly. And you just might be a good fit for a domino position if its filled in-house.

Funny how that works. I saw once saw an ad for an opening at a major outlet, sent my stuff and -- get this -- got the job! And no, the Podunk Piss Register and Daily Rap don't fit my definition of a major outlet.

It's like the lottery. You can't win if you don't play. Shit. Might as well play.

Is this not as good of a job as previously thought? Or are papers and reporters keeping better tabs on what information gets out.

This isn't as high profile as a few other gigs, but it's a column at a 180,000+ paper. I figured more people would be talking about it. Or have I missed that thread?
