    Yes. A fine newspaper.

Richmond does a hell of a job. I'm way biased of course. I felt that way before I got the SE job, while I had it and now - particularly now. Steve is juggling more coverage, more online responsibilities with fewer people and producing a good section. They've had two columnists, an SE and a racing writer leave since November and have hired no full-time replacements. A former sports writer turned deputy Metro editor (Randy Hallman, covered NASCAR for years) has been moved back to sports as a deputy.

Shit, I'd have to count. We had 29 at one time including PTers and the dickhead in charge. I know they've lost some PTers. I think they're in the low 20s now. They've gone to a universal desk - getting mixed reviews about how that is working out - so some non-sports people do some sports work now and then.

god bless the person who took your place, then, moddy. sounds like he's rising to the challenge, though.

I'm sure there are days he wants to curse the guy who left him holding the bag. But Steve is very capable.
One reason I stayed - of several - a couple of years ago when I had another offer was our staff was dealing with some turbulence. About all our management team had split. No telling what would have happened. This time, I had no worries there. They were in fine hands, in many ways better than what they had before. Steve has become one of my best friends ever. But we are different and he is probably better suited to managing in this environment.

Be careful. I ralph when I'm drunk.
Last drunk I had was the night of my going away party. My soon-to-be-former staff plied me with lots of Goldschlagger. Great fucking crew.

I actually have photos. Not surprisingly, as he did any time there was a camera in the vicinity, Moddy is flipping the bird in all of them.
