Given the unique status of the District, the bureaucratic process of getting a new stadium built within its limits is dizzyingly complex and almost surely impossible -- even if blackmail was not involved. I don't see many Congresspeople eager to vote for subsidies for a football stadium hundreds or thousands of miles from their own constituents. I don't see the city fathers of what remains a relatively poor city (getting less so every day, but still) doing so either -- not for that civic pariah.

Well, the Nationals stadium got built, so I wouldn't say impossible.

DC wanted a baseball team, so it built a stadium. It already has the football team, and knows it's not going anywhere under any nickname. Far cheaper and easier just to keep giving Snyder political hot feet. "Redskins" is a problem for the NFL, not for the city.

I'm not so sure. Goodell loves getting teams new stadiums and if this is the only way to get Snyder to change the name, maybe you do it. My question would be, which happens first. Does he have to get the new stadium approved before he changes the name or does he change the name as a show of good faith in order to get the stadium approved.

The publicity from the league seeking a bribe to change the name would be as bad or worse than that generated by the name itself.

It would have to be handled properly. Given Snyder's past, this would likely be impossible.

They just got a new stadium when they left RFK.

It's not that much newer than The Georgia Dome. I know that's not an argument that they deserve/need a new stadium, but I've learned that doesn't seem to matter these days.

Phil Simms is thinking about avoiding "Redskins" on Thursday night. Boss says it's up to Simms and Nantz to decide. (Nantz says it isn't his job "to take a chance.")

calling a penalty on yourself in golf is about the highest Nantz's moral courage meter reaches. Anything higher and you're just calling attention to yourself.

  11. This is bullshit.
It's Not their job to decide.
The team is called the Washington Redskins. Call the game straight and stay fuck out of it.
It's funny, these guys had no issues calling Redskins game for previous parts of their careers. I missed have miss Sims dissing the name during his playing days as well.

And Nantz: that's smart. For a guy who slobbers Augusta National, he'd be wise to avoid this thing entirely.

Frankly, I think Sean McManus really put his staff in a bind putting it on them. He hung them out to dry. Isn't this the kind of decision he's supposed to make? Do you tell them to mention/not mention the Ray Rice thing? The Jim Irsay thing?
