I read some article in WIRED magazine recently, and it seems like the show has more of a cult following. The people who watch the show understand all or the majority of the references and enjoy it. It's a risk, being different in a major time slot on a major network. Guess they're throwing all their eggs into one basket and seeing where it goes. I honestly didn't think there would be a Season 3 in the first place.

Haven't watched last night yet, but I think that it is sometimes too cute for its own sake. I don't mind the dark episodes (Troy's b-day, Pierce in the hospital) but the wacky concept ones usually bore me.

NBC is doing so poorly, they probably get another year regardless.

I agree with the comment on NBC. Heck, if it shows a pulse, leave it on the air at this point. The alternative is to air more episodes of Whitney, which annoys the fuck out of me, and all I see is 30-second snippets after The Office.

I do think Community would do better in the 9:30 slot though. It would make more of a natural progression in tone - A sunny Parks and Rec at 8:30, a bittersweet Office at 9, and a sometimes-bleak Community at 9:30 leading into the cop drama with Maria Bello. It would leave a hole at 8; they should just run old episodes of The Cosby Show or something...

Great episode. Episodes like last night's remind me why it's one of the better comedies out there. Parks and Rec? Goodness. Treat yo self !!

I am one of the few dissenting voices in regards to Community. I watched up to last season but aside from the paintball episode, I got tired of it. I really found the characters largely unlikeable (aside from Abed who is funny) and too much dialogue of the "you are only acting like X because you really feel Y" variety.

God I HATED the paintball episode. I loved every other second of that show.

I liked it IJAG because I am a big John Woo fan.

I don't even know what that means.

The paintball episode had a lot of homages to John Woo films, particularly the way Ken Jeong was dressed in his shootout with Britta and Winger. Change was made up to look like Chow Yun-Fat the lead in a lot of Woo's Hong Kong action epics.

My wife was watching and I just sat with her to be nice. Hadn't really seen the show before. That was quite good.

Wow. I've never heard anyone complain about the paintball episodes before. I freaking love them for about 50 different reasons.

About 49 of them are the little nods to movies (not just the John Woo stuff, which I guess went over my head) but to others.

Another is the way they're all crazy serious about it, then as soon as they get shot, they're like "Oh, huh. Shucks. Anyway, I'm going to go get a coffee. You guys have fun."

Thought Thursday's episode was one of their best. Excellent writing.
