Best: Linkin Park/Story of the Year or Jimmy Eatworld/311
Worst: Thursday really sucked in person, so did Chingy. At least Chingy was free.
Last: Sponge (They're still alive apparently)
    Next: Eminem/Jay-Z in September

Best: Grand Buffet in Gainesville, Fla. They're a quirky, little-known rap group, and a lot of my friends got hooked on them after following me to this show. I was handed the mic twice to finish off verses, and the opener was Astronautilus, who has become one of my favorite artists.

Worst: Underoath in some church basement between Orlando and Lakeland. We arrived too late because we were watching Star Wars: Episode 2 in IMAX.

Last: Barenaked Ladies in St. Petersburg. As part of the Tampa Bay Rays' summer concert series, they played in center field after the game. They did a great job, considering the setting (most of the crowd had to watch from the bleachers hundreds of feet away).

    Next: Can't say. Too broke.

Next Concert: Arcade Fire/Spoon at MSG.

Next: Dave Matthews and Zac Brown at Nats Park 7/23

Last: I can't fucking remember. Jeeeeez. Wow. Who was it? Might have been Asleep at the Wheel at the Birchmere.

Best: Hard to say, I've been fortunate. .38 Special at the small Flood Zone in Richmond was terrific. Marshall Tucker/Charlie Daniels/Grinderswitch at the Coliseum was amazing. Down to the Bone at an outdoor venue here was a lot of fun. Dave Mason on the night of my last college exam. J. Geils Band, the harmonica guy was crazy good. I could go on and on. I love live music and need to see more.

Worst: Again, I've been lucky. The Jack Johnson portion of Rock the Vote here in 2008 was disappointing. Not a huge fan but he mailed it in. That's OK. Sheryl Crow and the Beastie Boys followed and made up for it. Saw Jo-Dee Messina (not sure I spelled any of that right) after a Nats-Pirates game at PNC Park and wanted to saw my head off.

Saved from the Worst: Joe Cocker played here when I was in college and about all my meager krew of buds went. I couldn't make it and was steamed. I was the lucky one. He was shit-housed beyond belief and the show lasted about 20 minutes.

Indeed. Great show in a smaller venue.

Last: Metallica, Anaheim Pond, December 2009. They still bring it, and pulled out a couple of rarities, as they tend to do in the bigger markets.

Next: Rush, next Monday, some temporary outdoor venue in Chicago.

Best: Phish, second set, second night of the Great Went, their festival in Limestone, Maine in 1997. Unbelievable. I can't believe it was that long ago when I think about it. Honorable mention: Bela Fleck and Tony Trischka at a spring fest at Hobart in 1998. At night in the cold rain, but they were outstanding.

Worst: Sheryl Crow in Albany in 1995, maybe 1996. Forgettable whenever it was. The crowd was maybe as bad as the music, too.

Last: Phish at Hershey Park a couple of weeks ago.

Next: If it's not Moe.down in September then Roger Waters at the Meadowlands in November. Can't wait for The Wall!!

I suppose my worst would be Spyro Gyra sometime in the mid 80s.

I wasn't in the mood and fell asleep during the show.

Best: Billy Joel, Carrier Dome. Was the first big concert at the Dome in a long time. Place was rocking. Joel got the crowd into it, was high energy for all his songs, had everyone going crazy slipping a Syracuse reference into New York State of Mind. Surprisingly good: Weird Al at the Palace in Albany, and Harry Connick Jr., also at the Palace.

Worst: John Mellencamp at SPAC -- had wanted to see him for years and was completely underwhelmed. Did not engage the crowd at all. Saw him again a year or two later (only because I scored free tickets) and he was much better.

Last: Saw Boyz II Men for free a few nights ago in Albany. Great concert, especially for free. Sang all their old favorites, did a lot of talking and laughing with the crowd.

Next: No idea ... don't do many concerts. Would have considered Simon and Garfunkel this summer, but their local appearance was canceled.

Best: Billy Joel/Elton John on Face to Face Tour. Honorable mention: Sister Hazel with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Worst: Gin Blossoms. Gosh, I used to love them. seeing them live blew it for me. Thankfully, Shawn Mullins opened and helped ease the pain.

Next: No idea. Pondering a Counting Crows show coming up in my neck of the woods in a couple of weeks, and I've never seen them live.

FWIW... I used to be a big Counting Crows fan until I saw them live. Hated it so much, I can't even listen to them anymore.

Best: Rock the Bells in the Gorge Ampitheatre, Summer of '08. Awesome venue. Last stop on a nationwide tour. For my tastes, the greatest hip-hop lineup ever assembled: De La Soul, Mos Def, Pharcyde reuinted and appearing for the last time ever, A Tribe Called Quest also reunited and appearing for the last time ever. Plus Nas (meh), Murs, Blue Scholars, Jedi Mind Tricks, Little Brother.

Worst: (tie) Phish, early 2000s, Gorge. Nothing against Phish. But I was in an altered mind state and honestly, strongly believed for about 10 minutes that aliens were descending upon me. / Santana, late 90s. Because by the time my stoner friends and I got to the Gorge, Santana was done, and Rod Stewart was playing.

    Next: ?

Last: The Roots, Paramount in Seattle, last summer
