Drew absolutely nails this. And I may have more later, but I had a similar experience just last night in N.C. at the Back Room of the Cat's Cradle for Dave Hause. It's a little different than Drew's venue, and we may have ultimately had about 100 people total, but the sentiment was the same. Just an absolute joy of a show and performance, Dave was so engaged with us as an audience and chatted between every song. Met him afterward, thanked him for all the thought and joy he's given me through his music, and seemed genuinely appreciative. Just a great night.

Isbell last night was amazing. Go see him live.

His opening act was Adeem the Artist. So it was my first time to hear a non-binary, pansexual country singer. Country music with queer themes was interesting. But, hell, why should us straight folks be the only ones crying in a beer over a lost love?

I saw that he closed with “This Ain’t It Baby” which seems like a good choice. It’s got a solid DBT vibe.

Might sneak down to Toronto and catch him.

Coming to Richmond in August. I'll be there. I've seen him six times but the last time was pre-pandemic, I think in Philly with Father John Misty.

This Ain’t It is the best closer since Super 8. He, Sadler Vaden and Will Johnson of Centromatic (who is playing third guitar and second drums) just tore it down. The new songs sounded so good live.

    This makes my heart sing.

The above video is a Dave Hause show from about three-to-four days ago, and on the same short tour that I saw a week or so ago.

It's professionally shot, so the quality is terrific, and while not the exact same set list I saw in North Carolina (good on you, Dave), it's exactly the same style of show - Dave, his legs crossed with an acoustic guitar, his brother Tim on guitars to this right, and Mark on keys.

The banter between every song, the humor, the honesty, and the great, GREAT songs is the performance I saw, and here it is on YouTube just a few days later.

This truly makes me happy. Please give Dave a shot.

(And yeah, I tipped the band via the link on screen. Happily.)

"Pansexual" reminds me of this line from the Corsican Brothers: "He's a trisexual. He'll tri anything."

If you didn't know that Pure Prairie League was still a band and still touring, I'm here to say they are. Saw them last night at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. They have been a group for 54 years, still have one original member, who plays the steel guitar. Not a bad concert. Some familiar music. The Coach House is a good place to enjoy music.

Did a back-to-back of Foo Fighters and the Doobie Brothers last week.

Enjoyed them both, but the FF didn't really live up to the advance billing of "THE BEST CONCERT EVER!!!!!!" that I heard so much of going in. They played their asses off, and it was good, but may not have cracked my top 5 live shows ever.

The Doobie Brothers were surprisingly good (my wife's guilty pleasure). Michael McDonald still sounded great, and they played hard and for two hours-plus.

Dead & Company last night at Fenway. Great show, solid setlist. Only downside is that I've never seen them play Franklin's Tower live (saw the Grateful Dead in '89 and they played it the night before I went and saw Dead & Co. 2 years ago and they didn't play it). It's my favorite Dead song and in the second set last night they started playing Help On the Way, followed by Slipknot. Franklin is usually the third part of the medley but they went right into a reggaed-up Fire On the Mountain instead (which usually goes along with Scarlet Begonias, which they didn't play). That was a good number but I still felt disappointed -- like I'd been led to water and not permitted to drink. They also played a great cover of the Weight in the second set. If that was really the last opportunity to see what's left of the Grateful Dead, I felt like I got my money's worth.

Oh yeah -- and Fenway is a TERRIBLE concert venue.

Loved me some PPL back in the day. Craig Fuller (?) had a great voice, "Bustin' Out" is a super album. They probably played a lot of gigs at the Palomino Club too.

Went to the first show at CitiField, and it may have been the single greatest concert of my life. Other than FT and Scarlet/Fire, which I would have loved to hear, it was like I wrote the setlist for them.
