I was lucky enough to hear "Echoes" in 1987, when Floyd opened about their first week's worth of shows with it. They dropped it for reasons unknown and switched to "Shine On" (I-V), which closed the show initially. Gilmour played "Echoes" in the mid-2000s while touring with Wright. I missed that one. He only hit four towns in N. America and I never had a good date available. Would love to have seen that and Wright died soon after, so I'm especially bummed to have not seen/heard it, though there are great videos available.

Waters periodically mixes in some "Final Cut" stuff in his shows. I enjoy that album now and then, but it's recorded with the inputs so low that it becomes difficult to play other than in the car. You have to turn it up very loud to catch a lot of the background stuff. Waters was a lunatic when it came to recording. He wants everyone to only listen through headphones. It's not surprising Gilmour hates him. I'm a huge Floyd fan and I can't stand Waters.

And yes, do see the Aussie Floyd, if you can, and if you haven't seen Floyd in person. But if you have seen Floyd (or Waters, or Gilmour), it's kind of like going to "Mamma Mia" instead of seeing ABBA.

Dropped off my wife and a friend for the Pink show tonight.

Pouring rain now, but it held off. Pat Benatar opened, a couple of other acts before.

Boy George and Culture Club are playing in Austin tonight. On StubHub, lawn seats are available for $4. Some seventh-row seats are $14.

IIRC, Dark Side was released about the same time as Quadraphonic (1973?). Someone I knew had one of the new systems and had a Quad recording of the album.

Whatever happened to the film version of Meddle, shot at Pompeii? .. OK, viewable on Youtube now. I remember seeing it at a cinema.

It is getting up around 105 in Austin today - so maybe still 95-98 by showtime. Not exactly the best day for an outdoor show, especially when the majority of folks interested would be over 50.

I just dropped $500 on tickets for four concerts (two seats at each, or more). Spending $100+ for a seat is out of my range. I'd rather spend it on people trying to put food on the table.

I'm looking forward to this duo in particular.

The entire Pompeii movie is worth watching for Floyd fans, if for no other reason than to see a kick-ass version of "Echoes" performed. I believe it is divided into two parts.

There's other quality Pink Floyd bootlegs on YouTube from the early 1970s that are well worth checking out.

The National’s Homecoming two-day festival in Cincinnati in September has them playing through High Violet on Friday and Trouble Will Find Me on Saturday and has Patti Smith, the Walkmen and Pavement playing. Excited for it to return after a five-year hiatus.

Boy George’s voice is shot. I wouldn’t walk across the street to see him.

I regularly attend a venue that has a $25 "friend" fee, which provides an early shot at reserved seating. So I try to get in early for seats I prefer. This spring we'll see Los Lobos, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and a great Cajun band, Beausoliel. This will be our third Ladysmith show -- my wife and I saw them early in our courtship 30-some years ago. Beausoliel is also a repeat.
